S-Max® Flex sand 3D printer is a robust tool for foundries stepping into the next era of digital casting.
Metal casting is one of the oldest and most vital manufacturing processes known to man. Molten metal is poured into a sand mold to produce structures and designs for building machines, cars, appliances etc.
When it comes to foundries, most of the competition in the last 50 years has been from overseas. A major decline in the availability of labour as well as the augmented materials' prices and the overseas competition were important factors that led to many local foundries in North America closing their doors.
The need for a foundry to be flexible and ready for a more innovative future has never been stronger. ExOne's S-Max® Flex sand 3D printer gives foundries the muscles and agility they need to survive in fast-moving and fast-changing times and technologies.
The S-Max Flex is a robotic Additive Manufacturing 2.0 system that ensures sand 3D printing is affordable to foundries all over the world. It can 3D print 115 litres per hour.
The all-new additive robotic manufacturing system features an industrial robot with an end effector using advanced Single-Pass Jetting (SPJ) to binder jet into a telescoping job box.
The telescopic box is 1 metre wide, 1 metre tall and 1.9 metres long and it is responsible for containing the sand as the S-Max Flex prints each layer.
Main benefits of the S-Max Flex:
- cost-effective due to high-quality parts, its capability of mass-production and 100% recyclability of the material
- price per cubic inch is very competitive with traditional core shooting
- easy-to use
- reduces supply chain issues
