Thank you for saving this historic dairy. I do hope they intend to remove some of the trees that are located so close to the exterior walls? Trees create a lot of debris on the roof when the leaves fall. God bless all the workers. AAA+++ 👍🐸👍

Two NB points not explored: 1. How did the dairy fall to ruin? 2. The family that owned/own Cobham Hall should have family archives that detail how the stained glass windows in the dairy would have looked before.

I can’t imagine that archives weren’t looked at so the information must not be extant. This is a stunning restoration! I also love the clever touches in the decor such as the printed curtains with the delft tile image of the milkmaid.

Greetings. Its was delightful to see the transformation of the dairy building getting back to life in a form of a home sweet home, even if its just for a short vacation time. Its aso smart taking buildings on demolishing state bkz u can save money for the property which is less than buying something new and save lots of the restoration bkz it does has to be done by the laws and agreements for buyers. Anyways... Fantastic and im wondering seeing the next project. Lets go. Yeeeeaaa

and then made into a holiday let ??? Crazy
@j.j.9123
Ай бұрын
Is it? A holiday let will generate far more income than a ticketed building. This dairy will have to be maintained and periodically is going to have to have restoration touchups, new repointing using period soft mortar so the bricks don’t spall, etc. around every fifty years. The income generated by letting it out can help the building pay for its future needs.
@silverhooligan1256
11 күн бұрын
I agree, it would have been much more interesting and culturally beneficial if it was restored into a period dairy. How many more B&Bs does Britain need? How many more wedding venues. Disappointing. I wouldn’t have donated to the project for it to be turned into a holiday venue.
@j.j.9123
11 күн бұрын
@silverhooligan1256, putting in heat also means the temperature can help stabilize the building and the plaster and mortar. While it would be lovely to have had it be absolutely period, in the long run, it is t practical. I volunteer at a small brick first quarter 28th century house in Virginia. It was fully restored by a nonprofit 80 years ago. It’s just been restored to the tune of nearly a million and the mortar and plaster will need to be done again in another fifty years. This isn’t an ordinary save and transform a dairy, barn, etc and turn it into a let. It’s an extreme authentic restoration and this Trust which will now go save another period building from collapsing needs it to pay for its upkeep and perhaps contribute to funds that will be needed in the next major project that will have to be done. In the case of the house I volunteer at, the city took over ownership and paid the bill. But they didn’t step in to save the next important building which ultimately decayed to the point it had to be torn down.

Generous funding from places like the heritage lottery fund means they can indulge to the most expensive options instead of being more careful and practical. Indulgence....but it's OK to choose the wrong pots....cos I did it....If you did it I'd stop you.

I mean, they must know what they are doing that for... but really? A heated Dairy? Would it not be better as a showpiece for classes and museum-tours? ...no, instead lots of thought going into the intimacy of couples renting the place for a day or two..... I mean, with no heat, I'm sure the Dairy Maid probably enjoyed getting warmed up in her bed a bit by someone; but is this genuinely all that this place is about?
@JenniferKokoski

The holiday let will generate more income and allow them to pay for other projects to restore. I think that's the point. You do want to restore the integrity of the building but it should be financially viable as well.
