Minor correction - HTA is identical to the Meta AM. Excited for your full review and comparison - I'm guessing it's a lot lighter than the AM.

Yup, they are the same. Al these numbers get confusing lol. The AM came in at just over 37lbs. The Sentinel as I have it ready to ride is just under 34lbs...with wiggle room. Thanks for watching Lee!

Nice review as always. I run NX with GX shifter, they make a whole lot of difference. Its not that costly if I smash the derailleur, but gives me that snappy precise shifting feel.

NX is a solid performer but seems i have poor luck with the rear derailleur getting floppy. Aside from that it does it's job but swapping to new GX keeps things quiet.

@@StraightLine_MTB I also have heard about NXs being floppy, but I have never experienced it, it might be just pure luck though:D

What do you think of sx drivetrain?
@StraightLine_MTB
3 жыл бұрын
@@James-dn1hu I have never used the SX group so cannot comment on it's actual performance. Looking at it, it is heavier than NX but I would imagine the performance is similar as the NX cassette pairs with SX group. Given my whoas with the NX rear derailleur I would guess that the SX could be similar. I don't think I would let an SX drivetrain detour me as it is nice having the 12 speed group.

@@James-dn1hu I would suggest the new Deore as a low budget option

This was my first choice this year, but I'm happy with my META AM purchase, as I'm a bit of a 'Breanne of Tarth' kinda girl, lol, that and I really can't justify the extra cost of a carbon frame.

Straight Line, appreciate your reviews! Between the Ripmo AF Deore and Sentinel V2 NX, which would you prefer if you could get price difference to $1000. I'm pretty new to MTB, not doing crazy enduro stuff mostly trail moving more into technical descents. Santa Cruz area mostly, maybe moving back to PNW in a few years. Thanks!

Hey Cam. Both great bikes with some similarities and differences. The AF NX build we had came in at 36lbs stock in size large. The NX Sentinel V2 came in at 33.9lbs in large. Generally I would say the AF would be a great choice for an all rounder but I am finding the Sentinel great in a lot of places. I would say they both climb similarly and that could be down to the AF weighing a bit more but the AF may be just a touch better. On the technical downs the Sentinel wins with its more aggressive geo. The Sentinel is surprisingly playful/poppy for a "bigger" bike and the AF is a bit shorter so may play a touch better in the twisty stuff. I would say the Sentinel feels like an enduro bike that plays well on more tame trails. The AF felt like an aggressive trail bike that can take on enduro style riding but wasn't as carefree in the tech as the Sentinel. The AF is an amazing bike as well as a great value but if I was choosing one I would go with the Sentinel V2 as it fits my riding style and needs a bit better. Check out our first ride review and we will soon be posting a long term review of the Sentinel. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for Watching!

@@StraightLine_MTB Good feedback, definitely helpful especially since you've spent time on both. Regarding the weight, the AF first impressions video shows a scale at 34.77 pounds (timepoint 1:29) so must've been without pedals? How are you measuring the 33.9 in the Sentinel? 2 pound difference in addition to everything you said would probably be worth the additional cost. Can't wait for the long-term Sentinel review! P.S. At 6'2", I fall right between the Sentinel L and XL but an thinking XL after coming from a Hightower - would be interested in your thoughts if any regarding sizing.

@@camfisk9556 Picture of weight of the AF was out of the box no pedals and added extra sealant. The Sentinel was 33.9 ready to ride with pedals but have it around 33.4 with carbon bars, ANVL stem, touch lighter wheels and bottle cage. As far as sizing at 6'2" you could go either way. It may boil down to your riding preferences. Do you like some playful maneuverability or more plow. If you go large you could run a bit longer stem. I'd compare with what you are riding now as far as geometry and look at the Sentinel's. At a touch under 6' I almost always go with a large.
