Here's my Top 10 Tips for Transitioning hair. I began transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair back in October 2015 and my transitioning hair journey was quite challenging. I experienced lots of knots, tangles and breakage along the way and transitioned for 18 months, before doing the big chop in April 2017.
So having gone through the process, I wanted to give you my transitioning hair tips to help you through your hair journey to natural hair. It can be quite a challenging time and you may become frustrated and feel like giving up along the way, so I’m hoping my video will give you an insight into the journey ahead, in order to motivate & encourage you to keep going. Hope you find it useful x

TOP 10 TIPS FOR TRANSITIONING TO NATURAL HAIR
Tip 1 - REMEMBER YOUR WHY
Make sure you have a strong enough reason WHY you want to transition to natural. A reason that's going to keep you going when things get tough & challenging along the way. Without a real purpose, it may be easier to give up.
Tip 2 - DO YOUR RESEARCH
Begin by researching into the process of transitioning. Look at what others have done on their transitioning journey, methods they've applied and get ideas which you can implement on your own journey. This will help to make things easier, knowing you have a plan.
Tip 3 - IMPLEMENT A GOOD HAIR CARE REGIME
Washing & Conditioning Often
Incorporating both Protein & Moisturising Treatments
Moisturising Your Hair regularly
Sealing With Oils (if need be)
(Keep your hair in good condition)
Tip 4 - LOW MAINTENANCE & PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES
Low Maintenance Hairstyles;
Braids outs
Twist Outs
Flexi-rods
Perming rods
Buns
Updos
Protective Hairstyles;
Box braids
Yarn braids
Crochet Braids
Wigs
Weaves
Cornrows
Marley Twists
Faux Locs
Tip 5 - AVOID USING HEAT
Try to avoid using too much heat, especially excessive high heat, as this could lead to heat damage, But if you really must us it, opt for a lower heat setting and ensure you use a heat protectant prior to styling.
Tip 6 - EXPECT TANGLES & BREAKAGE
It’s possible that you may experience knots, tangles & breakage along the way, so just incase you experience it, you’re prepared in advance.
Tip 7 - GOOD DETANGLING SPRAY
Make sure you have a good detangling spray on hand to help you deal with knots & tangles. A good detangling spray will help to detangle your hair, so make sure you spray your hair first, then detangle after.

Tip 8 - HANDLE YOUR HAIR WITH CARE
You may get frustrated with your hair at times and lose your patience, but try not too. Just take your time, to avoid any unnecessary damage or breakage. Also make sure you don’t have any plans when doing your hair, so you’re not in any rush to finish.
Tip 9 - FOLLOW OTHERS FOR MOTIVATION
It’s a good idea to find people who you feel will motivate, encourage & uplift you on your transitioning journey, so that if you ever feel like giving up, you’ve got somewhere to go to help you stay on track. Some great places for support are; hair forums, instagram pages, articles, blogs & books (as mentioned in Tip 2)
Tip 10 - TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Make sure you start out with tracking your progress. Sometimes you may get discouraged or think that you’re not making any progress, but in taking pictures you have something to refer back to, which will prove that you actually are getting somewhere.
