A great beginners guide. Nice work. Probably the best beginners guide there is. I feel there is some bad advise included though that could cause trouble for beginners. One such example is when you assume that you need to find demand for both the oil and the fuel from the refinery. The crude oil makes one or the other, not both. Having it do both means it is splitting the crude oil up so that a portion is made into fuel and a portion into oil. This over complicates things for a beginner I think. Another example is, I would say, you did your passenger route backwards. Bus costs are very insignificant compared to trains, so I would deffinitely suggest setting up the buses first so that when you start your train you start getting people showing up much quicker. Which in turn will cover the costs of the train more quickly. Great job though.

Certainly one of the best tutorials for getting started. easy to follow instructions and explained in detail without rushing through what you need to do. Some tutorials I have watched previously, rushed through everything, without step by step instructions, like this tutorial does. Well done and thank you, I was having trouble setting up lines, now I have taken it all in, just watching your video.

I know this is 2 years later, but I have to say this is the easiest beginners guide to follow so far that I've seen. The only issues I have with it is your placement of the rail stations with one end pointing into the city. I like to keep mine on the outskirts, and both ends pointing away from the city, then build some rails just so nobody can grow in that area. But overall great guide, thanks much!

My advice is don’t be afraid of taking loans, it allows you to build up a lot faster and if you do it right the profit will be high enough that you barely notice the interest and you can pay it off quick. In my latest new start I took the whole $10 mil in 1850 and paid it off in full by 1875 with running costs at about $4 mil but income at about $7.5 mil

There are good things about this guide and there are bad things. Like there is 5 steps in making the 1st line between points, not every new line (you can have multiple lines with the same stations and hubs). Next thing, when you build let say train from point A to B it is good to make bus stops inside the city to take the passengers to the train station. because the train station and the bus stops at the beginning will be empty it doesn't matter if you wait until train station will fill with passengers, every station is empty at the beginning. Another fuckup in the long run is making a station ending in the city, then when you will want to expand and make more lines within this station, you have only one side entry point for the rail tracks... To test this connect springfield with augusta and bufallo with Omaha and after this try to make a one line between buffalo-springfield-littleRock... In the long run you will end up with chaotic lines and more than one station in the city like in the end of the video, more crossovers or bridges... last thing worth mentioning is that when you fulfill the demand of the city with product, it will expand like on steroids, thats why is good to have trains for ppl before transporting goods to this city... The rest is nicely showed and pointed out like bridges, terrain and the best way of placing roads to minimalize costs :P and the placing of roads and bridges need lots of practice to look let say good.

Bought the game during the Steam Summer Sale and this video helped me a lot, thank you! I have one question though: what is best: having one train multitasking (many stops & cargos) or multiple trains just going between two stations with higher frequency but higher operating cost (because more trains)?

Thank you very much for this useful guide. I looked everywhere for one like this and it helped a lot. I started in 1850, is it harder to start earlier because of having more years in the future? IDK, but this video got +1 like and thank you!
@robertlyon
7 жыл бұрын
IMHO it's much harder to start in 1850 because all the vehicles are so damn slow, underpowered and low-capacity it's hard to make a profit on any but the most efficient lines. You lay one passenger rail line then sit and stare at the screen for years (in-game years) waiting for that line to generate enough profit for you to start another line.
@rjtheryan

So would you say that starting in 1950 is the easiest? I have a problem every game with trains, because I love using them but their running costs are so high, and I don't know whether to keep it running or shut it down.
@robertlyon

Easier than 1850, that's for sure.
