I was able to attend the FTA Trappers College a few times and had Robert as an Instructor the first time I was there. He is very knowledgeable and a good trapper. It's a shame he no longer teaches there. He taught snare building and Beginning Trapping along with Doug McKenzie. Two of the best. Great instructional video. Can't wait to see your trapping vids once the season kicks in.

When I was young (Korean War era) a friend and I made snare swivels from wire coat hanger wrapped around a 1/4" pipe, held upright in a vise, 5 or 6 times, and small washers with an annealed nut crimped on the end of the cable. Snares were and are illegal in NYS, which is where we lived, but besides young we were also carefree and stupid. We caught rabbits

I really like your snare tutorial, very solid information...I used it to make mine by. Now that I know how to make swivels, I will be making me a swivel machine in the morning and never buy another again. But...I find it very hard to believe that the oil on the cable can smell more then spray paint, and by theory spray paint makes the cable a little thicker and could slow down the loaded snare a bit. Everyone including you say to boil in Baking Soda to get the shine off the cable, I will do that, but I don't think painting my snares is a good idea. But to each their own. Again...I threw away my old snares and made my new ones like yours, because yours close faster Baking Soda "Yes", Paint "No"! You can hide the snare with wads of grass.

Hope y'all will come out with a "Part 2" on setting snares. I catch a lot of coyotes and bobcats with snares set on fence crawls (those locations are no-brainers) but I'd love to learn how to set them on trails or around kill sites or other 'open country' locations. Great video, as always! I definitely picked up some new tricks - especially the paint scheme!

At 2:00 in, I became too annoyed with the damn background music.
This presentation was obviously designed to go clear over the head of the layman. The first sign is that he does not even describe the specification for the cable or the source ... He also speaks very fast and glosses over important points. ... no way am I even going to bother to save this to any of my playlists. ... SO GLAD THAT *HE* understands what he is doing. ... He clearly has no intention of imparting any USEFUL knowledge or information to the common man. THUMBS DOWN AND I AM BAILING.

Ok. Bye. As for the cable you use different cable size for different target animals. Guarantee if he said to use 1/16" 1x19 cable someone would try to snare wolves with it. Besides, he did mention he uses 1x19 cable in the video, but you were probably too busy getting your rant put together to actually listen to it.
