Probably not a bike for black trails, but still perfectly usable as a commuter or for a joy ride through the forest.

This year's model: Huffy Riverbed. Huffy makes garbage low end bikes. BUT, and I say but; the company has great customer support. Even up here in Canada. Friend's son bought a cheap low end Huffy. Crank was warped. Contacted Huffy USA. They sent him a new crank for like $30 CAN. I put it on. I am impressed.

Love it Joe! My first Mountain bike was a Huffy Mt Storm. Yellow and black and it held up to a lot of abuse as a 11-13 year old. I think everyone needs to own one so they can appreciate what they have later in life :)

You did a great job....iDK how you resisted the urge to change/upgrade a few parts along the way....better pedals, new seat, QR skewers, 1x drive chain and a trigger shifter

Money was the biggest deterent 😉. I did replace the dead shifters with a new microshift twist grip and full sis housing for shift and brake. It works surprisingly well!

My rusting seatpost issue was solved by heat bluing. Been repainting it before but got tired of repainting it now and then. I blowtorched my seatpost till it turn black left some blue and purple patterns and oiling them every week. Turns out beautiful.

Nice find and nice restoration. My only concern is wasting evaporust on the chain. I know chain prices aren’t what they used to be before the pandemic, but I would not personally reuse a rusty chain nor would I ever recommend doing it. Too many moving parts on something that isn’t exactly rare to snap to risk not buying a new chain.
@CoolBikeProjects

You are right. In the end I did replace the chain. Just wanted to give it all one last hurrah to see what could be saved.

Great work as always and I was curious how the frame itself would perform. My first bike was a black Huffy bmx, the motocross looking one with the stubby banana seat and I rode it for years and delivered my paper route on it, a true tank that made me appreciate my later bikes. On the rusty frame note a neighbor gave me 2 Mongoose Hilltopper mtn bikes that sat in a yard for years. I broke them both down, one saw salvagable with some new parts but the other was sooo rusty. Thinking of checking out this frame saver product to see if I can make a servicable commuter bike out of it at least. Thanks for the inspiration man 🙏👌

For a few dollers and a bit of hard work you have a perfectley adiquite ride to work bike that over time would save you hundreds of dollers in gas . One less car on the road and that can't be a bad thing.;-).

The product I used was Rustoleum rust inhibitor. You can buy it online or at your local hardware store. I would not run water through the frame unless you plan on drying it out for days in the sun or in a low temp oven.
