I would also add that in some countries in Europe, don't discount renting a car and doing a road trip. 🚗 I was in Bosnia & Herzegovina this summer, and a whole week's car rental (quite new, nice to drive) was only 120 EUROS, and fuel was really cheap too. That gave me freedom to explore anywhere I wanted, and get to places where it would have been impossible (or at least impractical) to take buses/trains, etc. 😃

Xennial Traveller ah so true!! I actually don’t drive so don’t rent a car too often hehe but I do love a good road trip (as a passenger!) Car rentals in Europe can be super tricky with hidden costs, but you’re right - when you can find a good deal and share with a group, it can be really good. Maybe a topic for another video!
@XennialTraveller

@@HappytoWander Hidden costs are certainly something to look out for (like you pointed out with airlines), but with car hire they are fairly manageable - you can even get excess insurance to cover any potential crashes. Road trips are super fun!

Thanks for the info Christina. Once we can travel again I'm planning to spend a few years AirBnB-ing round the world, seeing all the places I've always wanted to. Great tip about regional railways, which can also be a better way to see the country - and you can just turn up and take a bike on board! I'll be going through your tubes for more tips. BTW, as someone definitely over 30 :) I've looked at Eur/InterRail and they never seem worth it. And it's more fun to plan on the day anyway!

Great video, thanks for explaining about the buses. I have used Eurail twice now and I love it. It is NOT for everyone however. But for me I just like to explore and have the option to get on a train or off without an absolute plan. I am traveling again in September of to Europe and I will be using a rail pass. I actually planned out the places I am "planning" to go. I priced the tickets as if I was buying them today, 30 days in advance and 90 days in advance. Huge difference in the cost. The cheapest individual tickets cost $475 and the price of the pass is $417. I get the senior discount. The passes are on sale right now so the pass now costs $360. Those advance tickets are for a specific train. I will have to pay some reservation fees, but I can go where I want, basically when I want so the pass is what I choose. Again not for everybody. If you are not planning to roam aimlessly, then probably not the way to go. Since I want to be able to change my mind and my route I like the flexibility of the eurail pass. Again thanks for this video, I am going to check out some of the things you pointed out. One tip from me, download the free Eurail app and check it out.

@Snowshowslow
Жыл бұрын
Have you booked yet? I would book as soon as possible (within a year) and I would also not take a flight between Paris and London, but rather a train (or a Flixbus if you're really going for cheap) and probably between Switzerland and Italy as well.
