Our first few locations visited in Vietnam. Hoi An was absolutely beautiful, though we managed to time it to get there in the middle of their Tet festival (their biggest festival of the year to celebrate the start of the new lunar year) so a lot of places were closed or charging inflated prices for everything (so sadly didn't manage to get any clothes made). Even still, Hoi An is famous for their lantern festivals and although we missed the monthly festival it was amazing to see all the lantern boats going up and down the river every night. A bit touristy, but still good to see. We stumbled across a Vietnamese game similar to bingo being played just on the side of the street which was hilarious, given we were the only white people playing and didn't have a clue what we were doing. Luckily a Vietnamese couple sat behind us were looking out for us and giving us a heads-up when we had to claim a flag. Shivvy somehow won on our first attempt and got the revered 'red flag' along with a prize (we swiftly gifted this to our new Vietnamese friends).
Hanoi was pretty crazy as a city. Lots of walking around to do and small things to see, but it takes a while to get anywhere due to the traffic being crazy and it therefore taking ages anytime you need to cross the road. Traffic lights and zebra crossing exist, but don't be tricked into believing that a green man means a pedestrian has right of way! Again, our timing was off so the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum was closed both times we tried to visit, but it was still good to see it from the outside. We also went to see a water puppet show which was really funny (not dissimilar to a pantomime).
