What a precious "how we became friends" story... exchange students in HK and pizza party. The balance btwn individualistic and collectivistic societies is ideal. In individualistic societies, the best case scenario is that one person can make a desired difference and the worst case is "this is why we can't have nice things" cause one person will ruin it for everyone else. In collectivistic societies, the best case scenario is that self-sacrifice, compromise, and cooperation is more instinctual and the worst case scenario is "this is how we've always done it" and "just b/c everyone else is doing it, why do i have to?" in instances where change is necessary but very slow-coming.
