just a tip for not being able to shower, I purchased a black card membership at Planet Fitness for like $23ish/month and was able to shower at every location across the US. And I was able to sleep in a number of gym parking lots that were open 24 hours. Another fun tip is sleeping in hotel parking lots and sneaking in and posing as a guest to grab a free breakfast in the morning (usually around 7:30-8am)

When I was a kid my family always kept a journal on road trips. I have one from 1964. In it I saw gas prices around 30 cents a gallon. A family of 5 could spend the day at Disneyland for just under $25, including parking. A Motel in Jackson Hole Wyoming was $14 for the night. These memories are priceless and I relive them every time I pull out and thumb through a journal.

I live full time in my van and have never had to plug in a coffee pot. I heat water on a butane stove and use a milita pour over coffee cone. Check it out, $3.99 is cheaper than 8 bucks and no urinals included.

@@corydriver7634 I don't remember what I paid for it, but they are on walmart website for about $20. I am sure you can find them on amazon too and I think any sporting good store.
@corydriver7634

Serenity Craft the point was you paid as much or more than 8 bucks to make coffee. 3.99 for the pour over, plus stove, plus something to boil water in. Granted you don’t need electricity and you can use the stove and pot for other things but still not cheaper. I’ll give you the no urinal part, though this idiot probably could have found another receptacle.

i really want to do this!!! i'm from the uk though and so mu first thought is how do i get a car with insurance and stuff to go do this
@DreamingOfReality
6 жыл бұрын
you can pick one up from a dealership or craigslist, insurance is as easy as making a call to progressive or allstate exct! depending on how long you travel for it shouldn't be too bad just know the state you buy your car in may have sales tax (ny is around 9% ) buttoner states don't have sales tax! so you might be better off seeing which state has the lowest state tax or a less populated state that way when you purchase insurance it will be cheeper than if you got insurance in NY I'm not fully aware of any of the policies just something to think about - Mike

I traveled alone for the hole trip on a few occasions people flew out to tag along for a few days but other than that your never truly alone depending on how outgoing you are, I made new friends everywhere i went it was amazing there were only 2 days on my trip i was truly lonely. when i was in the wilderness and i was camping alone in the rain for a few days and the rain just wouldn't let up it was gloomy and melancholy with no sight of people other than that i gotta honestly say i wasn't lonely (:

@DreamingOfReality

most days only consisted of driving from camp and in the national parks but traveling from national park to national park averaged somewhere around 100 miles a day ish. 500 day roadtrip 57,000 miles but keep in mind i went cross country a total of 4 times in those 500 days lol because of winter and going north to south exct the most i drove in one day was something like 350 miles in texas bc that state is absolutely massive i hope that helped!
