At 63 , first time travelling alone…I now crave for solo time. I’ve been caring for family, children, grand children, husband, sick parents all my life since 19. And as an introvert was worried to be on my own far away from home. Now I’m rediscovering myself. Feeling free!

I have both travelled alone and with companions. As an introvert who loves travel, I enjoy the ability to just go anywhere, not have an itinerary, and not to worry about juggling someones availability. Im emotionally secure enough to not need a companion. My job requires me to always interact with people, so my travel time is my time to turn off and give time for myself.

Im an introvert traveler who also uses hostel dorms a lot and yeah we are easy to spot, we’re the ones who don’t tend to hang out at the lounge to talk to others all day, we tend to go out and do activities by ourselves, return, say hi if somebody makes eye contact, and then retreat to our bed. We save money while forcing ourselves to be a liiiiittle bit social. 😅

Hey I am hella introverted and like super quiet so I dont really ever intitiate interation with people. I am taking a gap year to travel and whatnot and wanted to know how it was meeting people and talking to people in the hostels and just around where you are. Any tips on like how you balance being super “im not gonna talk to you” to wanting/trying to meet people and whatnot? Thank you for whoever responds to this

By the way, society wants you to believe that if you are introvert you are bad (kind od) but I never see this hypersocial people talking in lounges or socializing everywhere and actually if you approach a stranger to make small talk or conversation the stranger will either think you are a weirdo or feel not interested in a conversation. Most people have their own life and are not interested in random conversations with strangers. I am introvert but I actually feel people around me are even more introvert than me as I wouldn’t mind making friends while travelling but in my experience most travellers wants to be solo and not bothered by strangers or interact only with people in their group.

Just came across your channel. After 120 countries (80% solo, 10% girlfriends, 10% group) I can relate to the introvert travel club! As an introvert, I started my travel journey in hostels and dorms, as I got older hotels and air bnb. I found on group travel, I generally bonded with one other person and on several occasions I would leave the group early to continue on my own. I have no trouble walking up to strangers and starting a conversation, if I feel the need for companionship- best advice is to travel light, keep moving and see the world- it is not a scary or dangerous place....even for an introvert.

Great video. I used to be an extrovert and was also married for a long time. My wife passed away a few years ago and I also feel I am more on the solo-introvert side of things. I finally started traveling again and did several long term trips solo and it was such a fantastic experience. Nothing beats getting out of your comfort zone and going on group tours was fantastic - met friends that I still communicate with and one couple I am planning on meeting again in Europe this summer. But I could not explain what you just did in this fantastic video and I hope this is an inspiration for many who wonder how weird or lonely it is to travel solo.

Traveling alone for the introvert, or extrovert is highly recommended. I’ve traveled alone, and also with friends, and I honestly have to say traveling alone was best.. I can’t imagine any introvert containing their excitement once the wheels of the airplane touches ground of their destination, Introverts should learn everything possible about their travel destination, culture, food, history, points of interest, also a bit of the language spoken, because a few kind, or key words is valuable, the locals will appreciate the effort, and will be more willing to assist, and guide you to all the cool, non touristy spots, eating, drinking, and laughing with the locals is the best part of traveling. I prepared myself with so much knowledge, I don’t have the time to be stuck in my hotel room, quick naps and showers, and right back outside exploring, and creating awesome memories.. anyways I have lots to share on this topic, but it’s 645am and haven’t finished my first cup of coffee.

i've travelled all over the world and lived alone as an introvert my whole life, being super lonely is great it allows to really get into yourself and feel your journey on your own terms and the terms of whatever spiritual reason is driving your travels instead of dealing with other's drama while travelling, often enough, the disasters, accidents and problems i've had while travelling foreign places occurred because of a chance meeting with another traveller, i think i've met more beggars and scammers while travelling than like-minded travellers tho... i'm sure it's different for a woman as it's generally easier to make friends and meet people as a woman, but i know more than a few women who would agree that while travelling abroad on your own it's best to keep others at an arms length.. or longer.. if you don't have a trusted friend to take with you on your journey, it's taking a chance to join up with another traveller who you've only just met... but, i prefer being alone as people tend to talk about themselves too much and miss out on all the natural beauty around them...

Thanks for the tips. After traveling SE Asia for 2 months I rented a condo in Patong, Phuket Thailand and ended up watching A LOT of Law and Order Re-runs while ordering Pizza Hut delivery. I had an amazing pool and gym and a 10 min walk to the beach but I was burned out and fell into a rut. Once I left and headed for Laos I got back in the travel spirit. I’m quite young as I became an adult only a year ago but I’m going to leave to South East Asia in a week. I think that it’s a very good skill to learn on how to make time for when to be on your own / surrounded by others and set the boundaries of when you need to recharge. Being independent and relying on your own is so important although maintaining social relationships has a play. Thanks again!

But I also realize that i miss socialzing. Sometimes i only talk to the barista in the morning when I have my daily Espresso :) But as long as we reflect and realize how we function emotionally we can find a good balance. Introvert here :D . I think it's probably more common for introverts to be solo travelers because we're used to being able spend time by ourselves without preferring to have people around all the time. Just go out and chat to people you meet along the way, then have some solo time when you feel like that too :)

My first solo trip plan is to travel to Tokyo, Japan for 2 week, and simply experience the lifestyle of an Internet Cafe/Capsule Hotel type of person. (Since it's just me, I don't have to worry about feeling bad about going the more affortable route seeing as the trip is mainly about exploring a new district of Tokyo for me, eat lunch at a nice restuant, take photos, simply sight see, once it gets dark, have some dinner near, get back to the hotel where they have free ice cream, and other things, shower for $4 for 30 minutes, and simply have breakfast the next morning in the Hotel's cafe area. (There's really no reason for me to spent big, just the logistics of traveling with just a back pack, and exploring new places to me is enough of a reward.) (I mean I'll buy a view things to bring back for my mom, but that's really it.) Of course do other things, but spending it on high end things is not really meaningful to me (Plus I can't afford it with just 6 months of saving...I could if I don't pay rent where I am already at...but...nope. I'm just so grateful that I don't have a car or family that depends on me. I'm good.) It's just from January to April, I gotta make sure to only spend my money on rent, and save, save, save. (Not to mention Tax Refund, and other factors since December we get paid 3 times this month...so...many other factors in me saving until then.) Plan, plan, plan, save, save, save, paper work in order, the japanese likes paper copies, and making sure I get that booster shot to avoid the hassle of a 72 hour PCR test. (I mean, I already have 2 shots...I might aswell get the 3rd one to be cleared to travel internationally without extra hassles.)

Should I travel with someone it has to be someone special. I used to have special friends but now only special people to me are my relatives. Maybe I will find new friends but to me it’s better to travel alone than travelling with someone just not to be alone. Travel companions must be really close friends or family, otherwise it’s always better to travel alonw.

By the way we always speak about inteoverts vs extroverts but no person above 30 is into having random conversations with strangers. Even if you try it’s hard to make friends as a solo traveller, so I would say after a certain age most people are introverts.

I enjoyed traveling in hostels when I was younger. Now at 31 I really don't enjoy it at all. I'm going for hotels or private rooms in airbnb. I use meetup and couchsurfing hangout to meet people.

I'm a 35-year-old introvert man, and I love solo travelling more than going as a pair or group. Solly travelling advantages are freedom and opportunities to meet new people.

I am somewhat, if not most of the time, an introvert - in essence, I do just fine on my own. I do however, function ok with others but prefer my solitude and alone times. I am a bit OCD, or as my old boss used to call me: "Disgustingly Organized". I do travel with my spouse for the most part and never really gave it much thought of traveling alone but your video is very insightful and informative. Thanks.

OMG, I watch your video and this is exactly what I am like! I love being alone but I know I need to push myself too to meet people and start socializing! I am at a stage where now I have no job, no committments and I am wondering where my next move will take me! xx

Thanks In Mexico, my room was my refuge, I left Zipolite when the loud spring break crowd came to town, and then it wasn't. At any age, bongos outside your window, every night at 3am, is not cool.

I have so many questions. I was going to go to Cancun right before the ban on travel etc due to Covid being hit. Canceled hotel and flight. I'm 49 now. Don't have clue where to stay in Cancun. I would be traveling solo and with no car. Want access to the beach but don't want to pay a high price for an all inclusive. Just fine sitting at a coffee shop for a few hours to chill out from work.
