I love the total silence in the remote places and just the fresh smell of the woodlands . I’m pretty sure the only bad snake in Scotland is the adder. I’ve never seen any in my lifetime even camping in the wild. I’m sure they would be more scared from you ! But you just have to be careful . You definitely need a pair of walking boots to walk these places. Where else in the world could you have a wee beech to yourself 👍

Nice one, Eddy. By Scottish standards, that's a really good path by the way - quite often in the hills, there's no discernable path at all, and you just have to follow lines of little stone cairns, field boundaries and suchlike! The land at the other side of the water is the Kintyre Peninsula, by the way. At 13:00, where you first saw it, there's also a glimpse of the hills in Antrim, Northern Ireland, in the distance. I reckon you were beamed down from Space like Mr Bean, by the way... Hahaha!!

Regarding camping Ed, in Scotland we have the Right to Roam. Google it m8. Don't forget, in Scotland 95% of the land is 'owned' by 5% of the population which as well as being disgusting means this Right must never be rescinded. Oh and that noise you heard? That was the distress call of the female Haggis. You must have been too close to her nest.

Eddy, Tim is spot on about the haggis distress call. I last heard it just outside the wee Argyll village of Kames when I was a kid. My grandpa, who lived there, said they had been a bit too noisy that year.

Ah. The lowland haggis. The lesser spotted haggis has 2 legs shorter than the others as they run anti-clockwise on the mountains. You have no idea how many people believe that! It's hard to keep a straight face.

I'd love to see you traversing the anoach eagach ridge in Glencoe. Forget trainers. Take a parachute instead! You won't be disappointed with Glencoe. If you want a fairly easy climb, go up Stob coire sgreamach and back down the scree run into the lost valley. Seriously. I know you well enough to know you'd love it. Train hard though as it's hard going. It's a Munro. Well worth it. If you don't fancy a long day, just hike into the lost valley. Then onto Fort William. I'd happily sponsor you to do the West Highland Way. 96 miles though. You'd need a week. I only managed it on my third attempt. Even if you don't go hillwalking, Glencoe is just wonderful.

The roads are average for rural Scotland to be honest, but yeah, the drivers that work these routes are such pros, and so helpful. Most bus drivers are to be honest. I've not been to that cave in 20 years but I remember that wee car park!! We all got our photo taken where that map is now, I've still got a copy of that somewhere. We went the other way, and it was the easier way by the looks of it! From the cave we walked into Blackwaterfoot and our minibus took us to Whiting Bay where we were staying! Technically you can camp anywhere in Scotland, but I wouldn't recommend camping in a pine plantation - they're crawling with all sorts!!! The purple flower is a Foxglove - fine to sniff, but very toxic. If the bird is noisy and has red feet it's probably an Oystercatcher, they might be nesting near the cave. I'm an experience walker, let me know if you want me to send you some walking recommendations and I can email them to you, cos you seem to be enjoying the walking!!
