What about videos on states (like Colorado) who are passing safe storage laws and laws requiring an individual to report a lost or stolen firearm? Colorado also passed a law last month allowing local and county municipalities to pass gun control/concealed carry laws that are more (not less) restrictive than state laws. How will that impact us as gun owners and concealed handgun permit holders? Another helpful video would be what to do if you are carrying in your car and you turn on a street with a riot or protest, and then if they attack your vehicle. Thanks.

I have heard more gun lawyers say don't inform if you are not required because too many cops get jumpy and often it's more dangerous because some of them will want to handle it and unload it. Handling a gun in a stressful situation is definitely more dangerous than not handling it and if you are concealed carrying properly the cops won't see it and won't get jumpy. I used to notify them until I had an incident where the cup had me step out of the car and then he put me in cuffs while he secured my firearm he said it on the hood of his car it slid off and damage the sights he uncuff me while he spoke with me and then when everything was done he had me get back in my car and said he would return my gun to me shortly. Next thing I know he's putting my gun disassembled into the backseat of my car and told me don't touch it until I get home. I have no clue how he thinks it's lawful for him to tell me I have to drive unarmed in a state where I'm allowed to and I have a concealed permit not to mention damaging my tritium night sights that cost me $120 to replace and have mounted and they said they are not paying for it

I learned that the hard way when I traveled recently and was required to remove all ammo from my mags despite the fact that they were not in the firearm. I didn't have a separate locked case from the firearm to put them, so the airline just took them (About 30 bucks worth of ammo, on top of the baggage charge). I suppose I should feel lucky that they just took my ammo, but I don't. I followed the guidelines of the TSA and it wasn't enough for the airline. Just makes me angry.

I don't have an issue with calling the state police and asking if there are any new changes to gun/ carry laws but I would double/triple check with sources in writing or online as officers aren't always aware or can recite the details from memory. My plan is to say "I have a valid license to carry concealed and my CCW is currently holstered in the appendix position." No trigger words involved, and I've indicated several times within that one sentence that I'm following the legal requirements of my jurisdiction. I'd follow that immediately with a clear statement that I intend to be cooperative with them and will await their instructions before reaching for anything, as fishing around in your pocket for your license or the glove box for your registration/insurance as they're approaching the car is generally a bad idea.

I put the CCW card with my license and insurance. Have the insurance in the overhead eye glass holder so I don't have to dig. I just hand over my stuff with the CCW card on top and put my hand on the wheel and wait for instructions. While I don't live in a duty to inform unless asked, if they run my license it will say I have a concealed weapon and feel it will cause more issues than not if I waited.

Good information, but I do a bit different. I will call the state attorney general and ask questions about lawful concealed carry, not the State Troopers. In most states that I am aware of, the county sheriffs department is the issuing authority, not the state level. If I know the county of my final destination, I will call that local sheriff’s office to get the most up-to-date information.

So should you inform the officer even if it's likely you're not going to be personally searched, or to have your car searched? And if you do inform beforehand, will it not become more likely to then be searched?
@jamesgarcia3876

They have your information before approaching the vehicle. Your vehicle’s license will reference your driver’s and LTC license. If you don’t inform them, the thought in their head is “Why didn’t they tell me about the LTC/firearm?” Not telling them has already made you look questionable. “What’s he/she hiding?” The information database for law is so large, it’s hard to “get away” with carrying a lawfully owned gun during a traffic stop without telling the officer about it.
