People in the comments section are saying that his drumming is simple, but allow me to explain as a drummer myself. I played various styles of music from the time I was in 5th grade up until I was 28 which was the last time I played (marching band, jazz band, concert band, wind ensemble, my own personal bands) I was more of a punk/metal drummer behind a kit and I can tell you that while punk rock is simple to play the beats where as metal tends to have more complex beats depending on the bands drummer of course and Jazz is a whole different ball park of drumming. Although punk is simple, the art form of it isn't the beats but the speed and stamina of it is what makes it an art form of drumming and not everyone who drums can keep up with the speed and if they can but are not used to the speed can't hold the tempo for long (stamina) but in Travis Barkers case he kind of proved that punk drumming cam be more complex than the same old fast punk beat. Don't believe me listen to the album "Enema of the State" because their are a handful of songs on it that he changed to punk drumming game for all drummers of that genre. My point here is punk drumming is an art form even though it's very repetitious not everyone that drums can play punk and if they can do it probably not On Travis Barkers level.

Ive always loved Travis Barker but as a drummer of many years myself I have something to note! Travis shines but also got to shine! Not many other band members sanction exploratory drumming parts or patterns to their songs! Barker is a unique historical example of an amazing drummer being in the right band (for universal success) while also being in a band that sanctioned and even celebrated Barker's contributions to the songs and ideas! My experiences with bands mostly has been to play only a beat for the song and band, anything more resulting in push back even if my beat were only a slight more involved than a standard rock beat, so prooves the right band has the right mind set. Travis is made more exceptional though as a drummer by virtue of his continuing passion for drums despite being a multimillionaire. He is a drummer first and celebrity second. His bands musicians who get that also. If you play drums, seek bands who want drums and not metronomes! Travis did this! Prove me wrong otherwise

He came from Drum and Bugle Corps. So did I. Then I got a new teacher. The professor of percussion. He slowed me down and gave me taste. I was like Buddy Rich all the time. My teacher was Gene Krupa's friend. He was a musical drummer. I then listened to Tony Williams and many others to develop a style. Not lack of style. I knew hundreds of classic rock and probably a total of almost 1,000 songs. I could play anyone's style. My base was the same as Barker's though. I had to change it in order to grow.

Yes he has some chops but it’s the same stuff all the time, too much arm movement and wasted energy, most people don’t really know what a good drummer is, in his case it’s just his name. The best drummers are in the jazz fusion world who can play any style.
@JA-io8nx

@@maeu59 you're not familiar enough with his scope to make that assesment. He has marching band, as well as jazz background chops that are rarely on display. @@maeu59 Not quite sure why he'd need to apply marching or jazz to his style. And no, he wouldn't necessarily move away from punk pop and hip hop playing because he has a wider scope. I saw some comments here that are reminding me of my drum playing experience so i wanna share a story bro is playing a dead genre (punk rock) and he is relevant is 2021 and he will continue to do what he loves, which is playing really simple stuff really loud and fast, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG THERE My brother told me that i suck at drums because i played punk all my life but to me drums were a form of escapism from being a poor student and kind of a family failure, it was one time where I was good at something and it gave me tons of self belief and confidence i didn't want to be the next buddy rich or some jazz prodigy, i literally couldn't care less about that stop fucking criticizing people who like different music to you, it just brings them down and makes them feel like they are stupid for just enjoying something... at the end of the day its MUSIC and we all LOVE music, so stop judging people and telling them who to like and listen to, its cringe and in some aspects its like buying because you're '' so much smarter and better then others '' for listening to jazz or prog Travis is doing what I was too scared to do, and that is be himself and do what he likes all the '' jazz swing prog '' people who told me to stop playing pop rock and told me to focus on learning are some potheads who are circle jerking and acting to seem smart and intelligent, going to shows where 20 people show up just so they can say their hipster '' i listen to something nobody understands '' line To me, music is about playing, singing and having a good time, and i wanna say that i'm really glad i didn't give up drumming completely because this video motivates me to try again and record some covers of songs that i love, without caring if they're loud and fast
