The little crystal jar with the chip is a salt cellar. They use to fill them with salt and you’d grab a pinch of salt out of it. The well off use to have one for each sitting place others would only have one on the table. Really nice finds.

Unbelievable Travis!!! Your crock is stunning!!! It is so cool to see the water washing out all of the mud for you to find amazing treasure. Your DC stone beer is in impeccable condition. Too bad the skull and crossbones wasn't whole, that definitely was a crier. You had so many beautiful finds that week. You are definitely blessed Travis. Continued success...

Salt cellar for the table.Not smelling salts. I love the angel.
@CrickDiggersInc
Жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct, thanks for some reason when I find a salt container I revert to smelling salts 😂 guess because I like finding them so much. So these salt cellars, was it the same salt as in the shakers? Or was it a different kind of salt that they spooned out? Yes the Angel is something very special and after I finish cleaning it will be displayed somewhere in our home proudly.
@beverlyhayshouston2770
Жыл бұрын
Same table salt. Could be served with a miniature spoon or with a pinch of the fingers. I guess the history of salt shakers would be something to look up. I heard that salt was placed at a specific place on the tables of royalty. If you were not very important you would be seated below the salt. Roman soldiers were paid in salt, hence the saying “He is not worth his salt.” I love history and antique things. Used to bottle dig as a teenager when there were locations you could go to. Found great stuff at an old drugstore dump. I’m from West Tennessee and was trying to figure out where you guys are from by your accents. I was unsuccessful. 😂

Teel dentifrice and mouthwash bottle with Bakelite screw cap (1930s - into 1950s), cinnamon flavor - like modern ACT or Lavoris cinnamon mouthwash. Of all the products Procter & Gamble created, Teel was the most unusual product of its kind. Teel was specially made to clean teeth, but it wasn't a toothpaste or tooth powder like other major brands of teeth cleaning products were at the time. Teel was a dentifrice that was made in liquid form. In summing up, Teel was definitely a product that was ahead of its time. It would fit in quite well with the modern toothpaste, gels, mouthwash, and other new forms of dentifrice we can buy today.

When cleaning bottles,throw a half a handful of B's B's with soap into the bottles and shake, it cleans them really well , you can fix the lip of that wonderful blue poison bottle with epoxy resen for personal keeping, it makes them look nice on display.

Square O is Owens Bottle Co Toledo OH (1919-1929) on the 1st (1905-1919) and 2nd generation of Owens machines (1920-). Sauce or slick catsup bottles - not Heinz, with crown caps as well. Heinz did have a single series of crown caps and then remained with all screw caps.

Latest update of date coding is that the older Owens Bottles ... versus the Owens-Illinois plant ID to left of the makers mark and year to the right, there was a plant ID -AND- year together. As such, this Owens Bottle Co bot has the 80 next to it (the date codes can be to the left or right of these square O makers marks - meaning 8 - the acquisition of the new Whitney Glass Glassboro NJ plant (1918-1937), before the Owens and Illinois merger in 1929. So this Owens bot is from plant 8 Whitney Glass Glassboro NJ ... with a production date code of 1920 !!! And this fits in with the other dated bot you have at the site.

The spoon is probably silver soldered. If it was solid silver it would say sterling. Higher quality silver plate would put silver solder on the parts where the plating would wear fastest (the parts that rest on the table). BTW - Dale says "what's up bro" 😁

Original chemical bottles of the Smith, Kline & French Co (1891-1968) - now the giant pharma med corporation Smith Kline. In 1830, John K. Smith opened a drugstore in Philadelphia, and his younger brother, George, joined him in 1841 forming John K Smith & Co. Later, a Mr Shoemaker would join and the company name changed to Smith and Shoemaker. In 1865, Mahlon Kline joined as a bookkeeper. In 1875, Mahlon Kline took on additional responsibilities as a salesman and added many new and large accounts. As a reward, the company then known as Mahlon K Smith and Company, was renamed into Smith, Kline and Company. In 1891, Smith, Kline and Company acquired French, Richards and Company, founded in 1844 by Clayton French and William Richards, which provided the company with a greater portfolio of consumer brands. In 1929 Smith, Kline and French Company was renamed into Smith Kline and French Laboratories and the company put more focus on research in order to sustain its business. This bottle fits into the (1891-1929) period of Smith, Kline and French Company.
