@@VinnyOrzechowskiIn retrospect. When we're in the thick of it, it's hard to believe that the health concern isn't real. I can't tell you how many times I went to the hospital absolutely positive I was dying of some sort of cancer or other disease. Even from illnesses that are extremely rare or unlikely. It's so embarrassing after realizing it was a borderline delusion, lol. Sometimes even after getting medical reassurance, I think the doctor overlooked or missed something. Maybe it just didn't show up in the MRI etc. This sucks. 😆

I have health anxiety and used to have OCD. I know there is a link. I underwent CBT a number of years ago and was given citalopram. Now some 10 years later still on citalopram and again had CBT but did not find it at all helpful and wish to get off citalopram. I don’t think CBT is helpful for everyone. Dont know what else to try. I have read a little about ACT and wonder if it would be helpful.

Is health anxiety always the only aspect of hyperchondria? I know someone who not only panics about germs and illness but also needs others to show frequent sympathy for her suffering, like it’s her only way of being reassured people care and her feelings are important. If someone else gets sympathy for a physical ailment while she’s already feeling anxious and insecure she will feel hurt and left out, even though she’s just received plenty of sympathy herself. If she’s relaxed and confident it won’t bother her so much, but it’s usually focused around health. I imagine treating just the health anxiety will just make her feel like nobody loves her.
