Could not believe this is an Asian treble. He should have European training. Hes fantastic. Tenoruser you are so right about the cadenza. Not many Western boys could manage that. Romydomagas is so right. I had a Cathedral School and Choir upbringing, and could reach top 'e' which is very high. This boy is so so good. Lets hope somebody reconizes that before his voice breaks. I'm blown away. Great vid, Lots more please haeun72. Thanks.

... I may not have gone to university in the end but that did not stop my continued study of music. I am still a musician of professional standard today. By ignorance I meant the general public who have had no musical training but recognise a good voice and so incorrectly call good trebles "boy soprano". That's how it has come into usage. I agree this treble is amazing, and may he be encouraged in his God-given talent and keep his quality of voice when it changes boys' voices change not break

I looked it up in my Oxford Dictionary of Music this morning so how can you say "it doesn't"_. I am talking about boys' (not girls' or women's voices anyway(. I do not have a Groves now as I had to part company with a lot of my books when I moved to Spain. There is nothing quite like a British Cathedral choir of boys and men..... boys' voices have such a purity of sound that girls and women can not match. Anyway I am working now and can't devote any more time to this debate.

Check out the ps22 chorus. Just do a search for ps22, they are brilliant. They are public school chorus of 5th graders in New York City. Greg, their choir director has them wear t-shirts when they perform that says either soprano, or alto for both boys and girls. It's a common thing to do here, as well as other countries, The British tend to think they are experts at all things cultural and artistic, it simply isn't so.
@brendant19

He's 11 and at 11 you don't have vibrato, and if its not naturally there then to add it for effect is not proper. And male soprano's repetior is not written or intended to be filled with arpeggio's and grace notes, or even a whole lot of dynamic for that matter. I will agree his italian could be better, but this kid has wonderful timbre, tone and a richness to his voice that is often not found in boy soprano's. And NedRorem, don't comment on subjects beyond your understanding.
@without201
14 жыл бұрын
@evarae87 Are you sure it's not just the timbre of his voice? He has a richer tone in his voice than a lot of boy sopranos have... I don't think he sounds like he's screaming, I just think he doesn't sound as light as most trebles do. I also think that his ability to keep his body and face completely relaxed throughout the performance is an indicator of good technique as, if he was struggling, it would show on his face.

I'm in Norway, but I'm sorry to tell you that if you are thinking of boys and men, this is as good as dead. I believe there are about ten boys' choirs in the entire land of Norway, which as you know is much larger than the United Kingdom. I fear that the extent of the cultural loss may only be appreciated in the UK when it is too late (girls are already coming into cathedrals). Here in Norway there has never been a tradition for boys and men.

Just because it is on KZitem does not make it right. I was a treble when I was younger and sang in boys' choirs as a treble and later alto. I went to a male grammar school and also sang treble and alto in the school main choir and chamber choir. Boys' voices are trebles, girls and women's voices are Soprano and mezzo Soprano. I tried to copy a dictionary link in here but it was not allowed. I am now a counter-tenor.

well, it's no longer my culture - I recently naturalized as a Norwegian. However, I assure you that the loss of boys' choirs is systematic and planned. I have seen two boys' choirs closed in Norway, and know of a third. There are those in the leadership whose concept of "children's choir" is of a childish group of (in practice) girls - and my experience is that there is an intolerance for anyone wanting to run a traditional boys choir. But there was never tradition for that here anyway as said.

Where did you study....in the States? Scores are written SA SAT SATB SSA etc because all male choirs where boys sing the parts normally associated with women's voices are comparatively rare. I studied Music at school until I was 19 and was a choirmaster at 16 years of age, and also studied the organ. I gave up my place at university to study music due to family circumstances. I had a good grounding though. I get upset when I see boys referred to a sopranos as I was taught they are trebles.

I agree that the term ought properly to be "treble". Nevertheless, you speak of the British music culture. I grew up there. When I was a boy there was a boys' choir in most churches. Excluding the minster, today, there is not a single such choir in my home town. Not one! Furthermore, while some say they have "choirs", these are not choirs as you and I might recognise, but rather robed worship groups. I emigrated 21 years ago, being unable to make a living at church music in England.

I am not sure as to what LaKritika is talking about. She probably heard something different, and placed her comment here, by accident. The boy is perfect in every sense. One has to account for the extremely poor quality of the recording, the accoustics of the place (Very poor in my opinion), and the fact that he had no microphone. Well... None that I could see! I would flawless, but he did make one single mistake at the end, and quickly corrected himself.

so so trained, so obviously taught. agree, out of the cultural context. Now the littel boy sings a Handel's aria about the drama and sadness about getting to old age... His voice is somewhat shaky and unstable in the upper register. Gifted child, no doubt. BUT! Why the child needs to attempt vibrato? The boys voice naturally needs to be straight. What he does with vowels? I guess we should put the blame on the teacher.. no kids fault, he is a student. THE END IS HORRIBLE>>>>
