I love our local markets here in Guihulgnan as well (provincial Negros). At one of the fruit and veggie stalls you pick your vegetables and she cuts them into stir fry sized portions (or any size you want) on the spot. 40PHP/KG no matter the combination, hard to beat.

I've gone to the market place here in pigcawayan province. My girlfriend buys her vegetables and pork and beef there. I'm not big on fish and I can always tell when we are getting close to the fish by the smell yuck. I do like those little shops with the novelty items. Nice to see the sights in your area.

Not whatsoever. It’s safe as can be. Use wise decisions and you’ll most likely never be in a situation of danger. Go out into dark areas of any given city in the middle of the night and things may change.

All the meat hanging in the heat is not the best thing, we buy all our meat at s&r , real quality meats
@nelsondog100

That ‘quality’ meat you buy is all factory processed. The meat has been raised on steroids sprayed with chemicals and packaged for long time shelf ability. The meat you see hanging in the heat is probably the most healthy meat you’ll ever eat providing it’s not spoiled. Use your better judgment when shopping 🙂

@@Frostydeeps you’ll have to cut out sugars, all kinds including from fruits. You also have to limit carbohydrates found in vegetables. It’s not easy, trust me. Low to zero sugar and a low carb (no rice) diet and you can do it. Factor in the humidity and the amount you’ll sweat and you’ll be thin in no time flat. Don’t fool yourself thinking fresh fruit and veggies will make you lose your belly. Just a friendly, honest opinion 🙂

It's hit a miss at my local "meat store" they slaughter the pigs in the morning for the early crowd, then do the same in the afternoon for the on the way home crowd. The butchering is done with bare hands on wooden slabs that I've never seen cleaned. I cook the meat a little more than I'd normally like it. It's worse in supermarkets; it's left on display for who knows how long and the chillers we're used to in the west that display meat are barely functional here. Gaisano, Robinson's and SM supermarkets are ok but the rest are terrible in my experience. Fresh fruit and vegetables are great from local markets though, most of the time grown locally and harvested the day before. I haven't had any issues so far.

No way I would eat the meat from those markets.However you can bet some/most local restos get it all from them.We have them here in Thailand also.I have the option to get most of my foods from BigC and Lotus shops.They appear to be much more hygenic.I stopped eating street food after one too many episodes of" Bangkok belly" To each his own.

@@jaideedave Thankfully after spending most of my adult life in and around SE Asia and India I seem to a little more resistant to the dreaded belly than most westerners. Not on a local's level though, there's stuff they eat even I wouldn't touch with regards to age and lack of refrigeration.
