This technique is really cool. I use clay for the base of my trees and it looks just like yours. Both are really good techniques, foam or clay.
@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl

Yes-honestly I think the clay may be a better solution-the foam is not very weighted at the bottom!

@@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl absolutely agree it gives them a little bit of weight and they’re not so top-heavy air dry. Clay is fantastic to work with!

Hey Carl, just found your channel searching for fall trees. Although we don't do Halloween Villages, we do a Christmas Village every year. Our problem is we start in September setting it up and snow in September don't go with the fall decor. So we wanted to add some fall colors to the village until winter. We love the idea of using the bush gerbe that you did. Thanks for a great idea! I'm now subscribed to your channel.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have had Christmas villages for years but just started Halloween this year with the Haunted Mansion set. I probably won’t get any bases done this year, but the trees I can do! I’m all about DIY and saving money. Accessories are so pricy. Looking forward to more videos.

Your trees are absolutely beautiful!!! Thank u so much for sharing, great idea :) As I was watching though I was curious if you’ve ever tried spritzing them lightly with a little spray paint (or using an air brush). I think the addition of a little green (or red) would add a bit of variety and be absolutely striking in your displays, giving that turning leaves vibe. Anyway, just a suggestion...I’m not sure it will work or if the paint can be controlled that easily...but please if you try it let us know. Another option could be simply using your spray adhesive and sprinkling on some of your sawdust flock. Btw, just found your channel this week and Im obsessed...I’m simply blown away with your work...I don’t have a village myself but this really makes me want to start collecting.

My village is the Christmas theme. I get fallen branches from my oak trees and for my bases I use either paper clay or DAS clay and make a mound and stick the twig in pull it out add glue and replace the twig. When it dries I paint mine white and then glue a washer to the bottom for weight. I also do that to my bottom of my Lemax street lights. If my twigs seem too small I add again either paper clay or DAS clay to the main trunk to make it thicker and stronger. Mine had lasted for years and add to them every year. I have enjoyed your videos and picked up some ideas. Thank you.

I love all of your ideas. I made some trees last year by using thin tree branches and fall leaves from Dollar Tree that I cut down to small leaves. I made the base with a combination of cardboard circles and lots of hot glue.

Carl, How do you store your foam displays? Tree? ext. Love your DIY.
@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl

Mostly in spare bedroom closets-one big walk-in keeps all of the foam platforms stacked against the wall. We’re also fortunate to have a lot of cabinet space that will store most pieces and trees, etc. Great question!

Hi again Carl, I have two questions about the trees-making process: 1. I went to my local hardware store for sawdust, and they pointed me to a package of pine shavings for small animals. Would that be ok to use? (As you can tell, I know nothing about sawdust or navigating hardware stores.) 2. I've been trying to spread out the branches of the trees, but they sometimes won't stay. Is there a trick to keeping them in position, without snapping off the little branches? Thank you for your time.
@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl
3 жыл бұрын
Howdy! I’m not sure about the pine shavings?? I suppose it would work as long as it’s as fine/small as sawdust-I doubt it would be though. If you visit a Lowe’s or a Home Depot and go to the lumber area, someone should be able to help you. They typically keep the sawdust from the big saw in a vacuum around that area. As far as the trees, no specific technique, just keep spreading them until you’re happy with the way they look.

@@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl Thanks so much for the quick response. I didn't think the pine shaving were quite right. :) I'll try the places that you suggested.
