Fan of the channel. Regarding the plastic dork disc, as you said they serve a purpose. However, if they were vital to the "system" then it wouldn't be made out of a 5c piece of plastic that deforms, cracks and rubs in no time (relative to how long the deivetrain lasts). If this was an eningeered vital piece to drivetrain engineering, it would be used in much more agressive riding (e.g. Enduro/DH). All you need to do is blue loctite the low limit screw, prevents that chain ever migrating inbound. Those disks are there purely for liability/prevent a customer from riding a badly tuned/setup bike from being sued.
@ethrrr

I remember as a kid.. I hated it, but I was too lazy to remove it. After a while, my chain got stuck a few times. It looked so crappy, that I had to removed it. And after so many years, my rear wheel is in decent condition. Maybe my dad did a truing, but I doubt it, considering how bad my front wheel was :))

Absolutely love these videos! These are always so educational and therapeutic to watch. Coming from a healthcare background, I have to ask… I see you using a lot of soaps, degreasers, lubricants, etc. with your bare hands. Yet, at the end of every episode your hands appear to be squeaky clean and not cracked. 1) what is the reasoning for not wearing a vinyl glove, and 2) what actions do you take to clean your hands thoroughly and keep them moisturized?

The way you treat that bike i can only compare to jewelery master working on diamond ring or super expensive earrings. But here you are giving it all to a vehicle. For my east-european mind it is something yet to comprehend. I mean i have a trek FX3 2022 and i take care of it, i clean it grease it and check all bolts for being loose, keep it hanging on a dry warm livingroom wall. However this costumer got to be living somewhere in clean and well kept infrastructure, because on our Latvian streets my bike gets dirty like a T34 after a battle in Prokhorovka on 1943 after only a 20 mile ride.

Nice to hear from somebody else who leaves the "dork disc" on a bike. I always leave these on my bikes, just because I'm OCD about keeping my bikes clean and I find the disc protects my spokes and hub from oil and road grime from the drive train. Although I don't replace them when they break.

Seeing a similar bike being serviced makes me realize that my dependable little fx 2 needs a servicing too. Bought in 2019, and ridden since then (though I did take an extended break at the tail end of 2021), so she’s definitely due for proper TLC. Favorite bike I’ve ever owned, even moreso than my road bike
