I travelled by car from Malaga airport to the car park "Centro de Visitantes" (about 50 minutes by car). From there, a bus picked me up and took me to the official entrance of the trail. First you have to go through a narrow tunnel and then walk a little way along the river until you reach the entrance. It is common to book a guided group tour for 18 euros per person, as I did. But there is also the possibility of doing the walk without a guide for 10 euros. In any case, it is compulsory to wear a helmet all the way. Rental is included in the price. The trail is about 8 kilometres long and passes through gorges, some of which are over 300 metres high. As a group, this route took about 3 hours, which was easy to do despite the southern Spanish heat at the beginning of September. Both the views of the numerous vultures in this area and a bit of tickling are almost guaranteed, but I always felt quite safe. It is also exciting to see the remains of the old paths, which used to be much more dangerous and often cost lives. The name Caminito del Rey was given to this trail in 1921, when the Spanish king of the time walked the entire length of the first trail himself and inaugurated it.
At the end of the route, I had lunch in an excellent restaurant overlooking the gorge. Right next to it was the bus stop from where a shuttle bus took visitors back to the car park. On this return trip there were good views of the landscape.
I really enjoyed this trail and if you are in the area around Malaga, this hike is definitely worth it.
