Ever wter line pull is different . If you put you hammer drill on the end of the pipe you a can break it loose from the soil, then put the cable through and pull the pipe instead of splitin it with a inverted cone on the cable.

We pull water services everyday at my company. We try not to pull through galv just for that reason it messes the cables up. But if you hook a chain to the galv and to the excavator and pull the cable at the same time it will save your cable. Sometimes it won’t pull the galv out though. Good video. It’s interesting the difference in materials in different regions areas. Here we only use sdr-9 out in the yard(pex). We call it bury pex. We don’t use copper in the ground anymore. Anyways awesome videos man keep up the good work

Amazing.. the big question is does the customer see a significant cost savings also? As far as pulling grips go - i would recommend the Klein Model number 1684-5F. Its a straight grip, spring loaded. Which means once you put it over whatever your pulling, it’ll stay on from the spring tension it creates. You can also slide it forward, but not backwards without releasing the tension. You can also lock the jaws open by hold them open and flipping the pulling end up... Also - that particular grip has a file insert. Ive been a telco lineman for 20 years and those are the only ones everybody (that i work with) likes to use cause they dont slip at all.. not cheap, about $500 a piece but you can order them right from home depot. What youre pulling looks like more of a winch line, or wire rope, where we use it on strand - but i dont think youll have a problem. If you ever had a need for something stiffer, strand or guy wire / messenger wire (whatever the catalogs call it) may be another option you can use. 6.6m is like 1/4 inch, 10m is 3/8. 6000 and 10,000 pound breaking strength I believe.

Why are you direct burying soft copper rather than pulling poly? Or poly coated copper. Soak your cable in heavy oil or massage grease into it. It will pull around a bend with less damage to the cable as the strands slip in the twist. a rigging company may have a grease for cables.

This is what I do every day, you need to get a Klein cable puller. It grips a full 6” straight. The cable is considered consumable. We replace old type L 3/4” and 1” copper with type K. We replace 600-700 services a year, we go through them a lot. We don’t use mini-ex we use Cat 430 and a chain on the cable puller and pull with the cat backhoe bucket. Rather we extend the boom out reset and pull again. The winch would be sweet to prevent resetting but as you mentioned the Reed brand splitting bullet rarely splits copper or galvanized after its first pull. If you want part #’s of the puller or the bullet we use let me know I’ll add them to my comments. It feels good knowing you didn’t have to open cut the entire yard. We use 3/8” x either 60 or 100’ cable for 3/4 or 1” copper For 1” gal pipe we use 9/16” cable. Trick. If the copper ever pulls off the bullet figure your length of copper you are gonna need and feed it through the copper adding a 1’ and pull thru the new copper. I’ve done that a few dozen times if you get into gravel that’s normally where that will happen.
@kcplumbingandrooter
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, right after this, I got the puller you are describing. There have been times where it twists the cable puller itself though, and renders it useless, that's when we're really pulling it with a lot of force. The gravel issue got us before with a poly line, it wouldn't let the pipe pull because the gravel would grip the pipe, and tore the poly off the wedge cone. It's a WheelerRex bullet, not a Reed(maybe they have one, too, i don't know) I've been thinking of using my pipe burst hyrdaulic system to pull on really difficult galiv lines. Feel free to reply with the part numbers, that could always come in handy thank you!!
