Not sure if someone else commented this but for the bow, just put a rubber band (the tiny clear ones work best for fine short hair) in ur hair first then clip the bow in ur hair above the rubber band. The bow will hide the rubber band and the rubber band will keep the bow from falling out. I do this all the time for my daughters hair and it works great!

Yep. Growing up in the 80s and 90s when hair bows were really a big deal, I always had to use a regular ponytail holder and then clip the bow above it. A lot of even small barrettes would slide straight out of my hair.

For me, if there's some small thing I wish was different, I buy it and then change that thing (if it's changeable). If it's a little bit too big in the waist: I take it in. If it's sleeves are too long: I shorten them. If I hate the buttons: I switch them out. If I love the skirt part of a dress but hate the bodice: I chop it off and turn it into a skirt. I never expect anything mass produced to fit me perfectly.

I've been wanting to buy a big clip on bow like that bc I never wear hair accessories but wanna change it up and thought those big bows would be perfect bc I have short hair and it's hard to really style but my hair is really fine and soft, I didn't think to pay attention to the clip!! good to know for the future, altho some comments left some great solutions so if I do end up with a bow with the wrong clip for some reason I'll try doing something to fix it lol. I've had small hair clips I've tried using before and I haaate how easily they slip unless I rlly put them on tight and they usually still end up slipping over time. I thought that was just a thing that happened to everyone and didn't realize it was certain clips with certain hair types lmfao.

I find that my biggest regrets are always "good enough" pieces. For a while I had tried to be secondhand only but being midsized makes it more difficult to find my perfect piece so I often would thrift stuff that wasn't totally what I wanted, but was the best I could find I'm my size. Of course I ended up not wearing them as much as I thought. This year I started buying new stuff again. Even if fast fashion isnt good for the planet, it's easier on my mind and my self image to buy one piece that's absolutely perfect instead of 3-4 good enoughs that I never wear. But before buying new I try to make sure to search for the item secondhand first.

I have a mindset of "that'll be good enough for work." We can wear navy, white, or black tops, and jeans or khakis. We also wear aprons so ill-fitting clothes get covered. I also want to be comfy and unrestricted since I have to kneel or reach above me for things.

I've been in that cycle before and started buying a couple things from fast fashion brands because I was never fully satisfied and confident in the things I found thrifting. The biggest thing I keep in mind is to look at the tag/materials. If something is like all polyester I won't buy it because I know it will deteriorate so quick. If I have to buy from fast fashion I try to be super intentional about getting pieces I can have and wear for a very long time.

As you've paid a lot for the shoes I think it might be well worth it to take them to a cobbler and ask them to replace the buckle to a different kind of buckle. There are buckles with snap attachment etc. A cobbler can easily switch them for you 😊 That way putting them on will be much faster and you'll get more wear out of them.

The bit about sheer stuff made me think about how even the influencers who are wearing that stuff ‘outside’ even have shared occasionally that they also wear more conservative clothes and then change into that just for the pic. Like some of us have this idea in our brain that there are other people wearing some of this stuff out and about cuz we see isolated pics of it but that’s not even the case 🫠🫠

Love this level of thoughtfulness and analysis. Unfortunately one often has to try things to find out what’s a personal no-no, which is why it’s best to do it secondhand as you often do since more sustainable and less expensive. For the denim skirt, there’s a hack where you cut two 2-3 inch lengths of elastic (about 3/4 or 1 inch wide) and hand sew their ends to the inside sides of the skirt in such a way as to scrunch the sides there. Pin and try various positioning to get the level of snugness you want, then hand sew down the ends of the elastic (add Fray Check if you have some to the elastic ends) using matching blue embroidery thread (stronger than regular thread), and also tack the elastic down in the middle at the seam so it doesn’t pop up above the waistline. See if that helps. And if it doesn’t, you can easily snip the embroidery thread and remove the elastic pieces if you still need to resell.

I’ve been quite interested in the colour analysis recently and I think you may be a True Spring. It's interesting, because I feel that as a thrifter, I don't follow trends a lot. Maybe my local thrift stores and vintage stores don't have a lot of trendy items, or that I'm just not gravitating towards them. The only "trendy" thing I can think of that I thrifted this year was a puffer vest, which fits the "Gorpcore" trend. There are my tabis, but I didn't thrift them and had to deliberately seek them out on Etsy.

I think sheer works for layering or as a detail (sleeves, collar, inserts, etc) on a garment. Wearing a head to toe sheer, see-thru dress would probably not work for most of us. But layering a sheer lace skirt over another skirt in maybe a contrasting color adds texture & visual interest. A sheer crop top worn over a maxi tank dress is another way to make it work. I have owned many sheer blouses & always wore a cami underneath. I was never brave enough not to.

This is such a great video. I’ve been in the process this year of learning to not buy clothes just because I like how they look. I have really started to think about pieces before I buy them in a more practical and critical way, and 99% of the time I end up not even wanting something if I give it an extra few minutes of thought. For me it helps to think about how I will feel when the item actually is in my possession. Will I be happy or will I feel guilty that I bought something I didn’t need and probably won’t wear. I’ve been doing the same thing with household decor and knickknacks.

I think the denim skirt keeps riding up because it's too snug around your hips. It's seeking out a narrower part of your body. In the waist area it seems to still be rather loose so you're kind of in between sizes here. Sometimes clothes are just not right for our bodies and it's not our fault, it's just the way the clothes are made. I hope you'll find your perfect skirt one day 💛 the style suits you so well too.

About not being able to try stuff on at thrift stores without dressing rooms, maybe you could make a video about what to wear to go thrifting? Wearing something like leggings and a bralette under a loose jacket makes it way easier to try on stuff like dresses or skirts without getting naked in the aisles. It is still a struggle though, I always seem to end up not being able to tell if my bra straps or seams are showing through because the fabric of the garment is too clingy/sheer or because I'm wearing the wrong bra for it. (I know if a top requires me to wear an undershirt I'm just not gonna end up reaching for it.)

Ugh noooo I totally relate to the size 9.5-10 shoe thing and buying thrift just because it’s in my size 😂! “It’s in my size?! Must buy!” Annnnd then the regret when I realize it hurts my toes or has terrible arch support and I would’ve noticed normally except it was thrift and a one time only type situation. For the brown tones… weird idea, but what if you go to a fabric store like Joann with a friend to hold your camera and take good photos of you holding up various shades and tones of brown? The quilting cotton section is in rainbow order and you can probably find a lot of tones all in one place. Then you go home and look at the photos and consider which you looked “best” in! 😂

My Doc Martens were a horrible purchase. They never broke in, so I sold them luckily at a good price. My feet were full of blisters.

Idk if anyone else commented this but as someone who tailors clothes a lot, adding darts to the back of the denim skirt would solve the issue. The waist is too big. It probably does need to sit slightly higher to clear your hips more comfortably but I can’t tell for sure. But a good tailor can do it easily.

Maybe try tucking something in to fill in the gap when it hikes up. I know you are the queen of styling so I hope the maxi denim skirt works out someday

I think the bow would stay in well if you do a rubber band to gather a little hair back and clip it into the rubber band.

Great video! I can relate to so many things you brought up. Being influenced by sales people, “it’s meant to be” mindset and most of all the over consuming thoughts of “I have to have this one perfect piece”. I guess just over consumption, lol. Thanks Alexa💜

The demin skirt...please please go get it altered. You've spent the money, you might as well re-invest in it to make it perfect, and then you'd wear it all the time, love it, and not have to get rid of it!

I have fine hair and most clips slide out with any weight. The only way you can wear it is change out the clip or put the clip above a low ponytail

If you get a clip/bow like that again, you can always tie your hair up and then put the clip on! I have to do that because the clips don’t hold enough hair for me. It’s also really easy to change the clip

I have also fine hair and I first tie my hair with a clear elastic and then clip my bows so it works for me then!!

I bought those same Doc Marten Mary Janes in 2007. I had wanted them for ages. Very expensive. I tried so hard to like wearing them but they were so stiff and just wouldn't break in 😢.

You can use those mini elastics to put the clip through to hold it in place. I don't wear that style anymore but that's what I did.

girl, don't unbuckle and rebuckle the mary janes! just slip your foot in! i would hate them too if i did that 😂

I've tried and it's waaaaay too stiff, like it HURTS to do that 😭 even with putting them on a looser buckle (which then makes them too loose as well) I'm hoping as they soften up I'll be able to do that instead because it's like a whole process right now haha

Indeed, the sheer lace dress will be beautiful for winter with tights and a sweater over it You can also narrow the maxi denim skirt at the waist
