Just a note about the old Trezors being vulnerable to physical hacks because they don't have a secure element. Using a passphrase defeats the physical hack because the passphrase is not stored on the device. So, your old Trezor is still a secure wallet as long as you are using the passphrase feature. But yes, the secure element is the new standard for securing your wallet against physical hacks. Just thought I'd throw that in here. :)

Thanks for the Information. Trezor S5, Keystone 3 pro or Onekey pro? Which one would you recommend? I guess all 3 are open source and also air gapped?
@cyberscrilla
2 ай бұрын
Couple things here. 1. Both the Keystone 3 and Onekey Pro have an optional air-gap mode you can enable/disable (S5 is not air gapped). But air gapped does not necessarily equal more secure. 2. Kesytone is the least user-friendly option in my experience, whereas the Pro and S5 will be equally user-friendly. 3. Pro is the most expensive, TS5 and Keystone are similarly priced. 4. Check coin support. Whichever you choose, make sure the wallet supports the coins you want to hold. I also have discount codes for Keystone and Onekey (same code: CYBERSCRILLA) that will drop the price a bit if you go with either one. Personally, I use my Trezor more than my Keystone and it’s enjoyable. I don’t have my hands on the Pro yet, it’s in the mail. Also I have videos on all these wallets if you haven’t already seen them, here’s the playlist: Hardware Wallet Reviews kzitem.info/door/PLcf_x896LiWP5A_BkcIBEkpflQhThbJ7x

I have the 3 and and love using it. Not sure I’ll upgrade to the 5. I have a Tangem and currently looking at the keystone 3 pro but connecting to a hot wallet and sending/receiving seems a worry. I do wonder what the difference between EAL 5+ and 6+ is and if that’s a factor we should look at for security? For me security is my number one priority. I also like the safepal s1 for air gap option. Trezor still remains my most used walls for now. So easy to set up hidden wallets too and connect to Linux

I just purchased my Trezor Safe 3. I tried to buy it via the trezor site and their payment system was failing.. I tried numerous different cards and every one of the payments was declined. When chatting with their support bot it recommended that I buy it via their Amazon shop which I did since it looks like it's the official Trezor amazon shop.. I'm a tiny bit nervous since it's not direct from their site.. your thoughts?

I never recommend buying a hardware wallet from Amazon or a third party site, even if the wallet manufacturer says it’s a “trusted source”. That said, once you receive your wallet, you can verify its authenticity in Trezor Suite.

@cyberscrilla

What do you mean you can’t see the 12 words? You can have your device display your seed phrase if you need to check it. You can initiate it in Trezor Suite. Both the Safe 3 and Safe 5 allow you to check your seed phrase.
@antoniocouto7092

@@cyberscrilla As far I know I can only check the backup on dry mode, I mean, the Trezor Suite allow to verify if your seed phrase I noted on paper is equal that store on the device, but I cannot find a way to Trezor device show the complete list of 12 words in the same way when I did the backup after initial setup. That means, if you lost your 12 seed phrase backup but and you still have the device, you need to create another wallet in another device or mobile wallet and transfer your fund ASAP and after that reset the device, create a new Wallet and back the funds from Mobile or another wallet. If you know how to make the Trezor device show on the screen the 12 words seed phrase, please let me know. best regards.

Well, the point is to securely record your seed phrase. The device never displaying it is a security feature. However, you can verify it’s correct by entering it onto your device. If you’re worried about losing your seed, make multiple copies and store them in different, secure locations.

Yes, all Trezor models calculate checksum for different things including wallet backups, seed phrases, and addresses.
@startnowtolive8282

@@cyberscrilla I mean making the seed myself and having an option to enter the 23 words that I have created and Trezor will give me the 24 (the checksum). I don't mean that it gives you the checksum of the seed created by Trezor himself, which logically it does. I know that colcardq has that option, but to calculate the ckecksum only any cheaper hardware wallet can work. Ledger, for example, does not have that option (I don't know if the newer models do). Thank you!

For the most part, yes, you should be fine using old models. The only downside is firmware support might stop. Which means new tokens/features that come out over time won’t be supported. And as I explained in this video, there are added security benefits of upgrading to the Safe models-but by no means is it a must.

@@cyberscrilla okay👍 thanks for the reply. I got one more question:) so if i set up my cold wallet for the first time and wanna send bitcoin from my broker to the wallet I use the public key ( thats whats called right?) . If i then wanna send more bitcoin to my wallet at a different time is it the same public key tp do it or do I need to log into my wallet again bc every public key is only a one time use and then you need to generate another one? I hope my question makes sense😅
@cyberscrilla

Yes, your public address is what you use to receive crypto. You can send it to the same address, however, certain wallets may generate a new BTC address for each transaction for privacy. But even then, you can send it to the same address it it will arrive safely. If it’s your first time, I recommend doing a small test transaction just to test it out to ensure you’re doing correctly.

@cyberscrilla

Can you use more than one seed phrase with Trezor? Yes and no. You can only use and manage one seed phrase (wallet) at a time in Trezor Suite. However, you can create hidden wallets using a passphrase, and these are like separate wallets connected to your main seed phrase. You can access any hidden wallet whenever you open Trezor Suite. There’s no limit to how many hidden wallets you can create with one seed phrase, but you can only manage one seed phrase at a time.

Your comments are still visible. If you can’t see them, they may have been flagged by KZitem, but I can see them. To answer your question: yes, in my opinion, Trezor is a great option for securely storing crypto for your business. You can only manage one seed phrase at a time on a Trezor, but there’s no limit to how many seed phrases you can use with it. The downside is, each time you want to switch seed phrases, you’ll need to reset the wallet and import the new one, which isn’t very convenient. That’s why it’s usually easier to have separate wallets. Another option is to create a hidden wallet with your existing seed phrase. You can access it anytime through Trezor Suite. Here’s a video on how hidden wallets (passphrases) work: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kWaVyYZ9qX2doZwsi=dgZx4ZihrmDZJoKX If you want more flexibility, you could also check out the Keystone 3 Pro. It lets you manage three separate seed phrases on one device. Here’s my review of it: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1IZs0I5vaWRldpgsi=6NGY80SU0j97FhfG - Alex
