Well, I'm glad you have had a picture perfect relationship with your significant other. My marriage had its moments where we were arguing quite a bit. My husband was a controlling person and at times it was too overwhelming ~ we finally divorced. They did seem like real human beings, not always ones that I would like in real life, but realistic nevertheless. So I watch and appreciate this series because it does give a representation of real life, and real life, though not always being pleasant, is what should be contemplated (among other things). I don't believe Mike's & Pat's relationship was good or believable but this is a good series & this was a good episode. I'm not making excuses for Mike's personality of being self-centered, homophobic, chauvinistic etc. or the way he didn't care for Pat's feelings or Lynn's but it is true Mike was under tremendous pressure from career, his ex-wife, the kids, Pat & her rising career, his brother, his mom, financial, the loss of baby, pending divorce, pending marriage, losing his familiar home surroundings, new cohabitation with Pat, his drinking, his cigarettes, his past, the ex-wife's stalker psycho new boyfriend. He was pulled in every direction. Also how could Lynn be under the psychos abusive brainwashing after only a month? Also Pat didn't have much brains as a detective inspector where she didn't deck Mike's brother. Was Mike & Pat's house key also on the son's house keys to his Mom's house? The ending was really shocking, never saw that coming.

The sad thing is that in real life, many law enforcement personals behave stupidly, they hardly report abuse, and they are mostly in terrible relationships. And in England, well, 90% of the cops don't carry weapons, and cops get done in, if someone is killed on their watch, we know this.

The weak point in this episode is in the character of Pat. It is believable that Lynn would be weak in a situation of aggression, but Pat is an experienced police officer. Surely she is capable of defending herself, rather than screaming 'Help, help' or are we led to believe that the police don't train their officers? Why should we pay them to defend the public if they can't even defend themselves? They must have some training in martial arts - or not? I'm sure that even a trained woman would be able to deal with a male with a broken bottle.

They should throw that rotten book out of every court. It's out of date, irrelevant and defendants will lie themselves stupid - whether or not they are religious. Swearing an oath on a bible is no proof they believe in any of it anyway. Preachers tried in court have lied after swearing on it. Even if they did believe in it, they know that all they have to do after telling lies is say sorry on Sunday, and then they're all 'reset' with instant 'forgiveness' from the precious sky-fairy that dwells in their imagination. To be honest, I would question the reliability of a jury that is made up of any religious people. They're plenty bound to be biased on the side of anyone who swears an oath on a bible - and against anyone who doesn't or has an alternative religion.
