I messengered full time for 7 years, and part-time for the last 4. At some point I burnt out on it, but not before having the time of my life. Messengering made me strong, independent, resourceful, and Happy...not to mention the bike skills and kick ass metabolism! When I needed a change I knew I could never work some desk job, or a bar or food...almost anything is a step down. Eventually I found nursing school, gonna be an RN next summer.

Bike couriers rock! I work in the downtown core of the city that I live in and I ride about 125 Km a week between work and the burbs and I've got to tell you, watching these guys has seen me through many a close call on busy city streets!!!

I've met bike couriers in probably 10 countries while bike touring. When I rode through a city, they were usually the first ones to point me towards a hostel or good safe place to stay. Here in Vancouver, they're part of a larger group of pretty cool people I've met while riding.

@glitchable I started on a mountain bike, went to a road bike, then got a cyclocross. I got a fixed gear bike in 01, and that has been my primary work bike: less stuff to clean after a rainy day or replace year round, unlike geared bikes (cassette, derailer, brake pads, etc). But the best bike for messengering is the one you feel most comfortable on, have the most fun on, and is functional. Avoid mtn bikes with shocks up front- it's just extra weight, and a stiff fork means less energy used

I'm a courier as they say now in New York, 16 years. No disrespect but I really don't see the diversity in this vid and further thought it is really funny when some of these people come to New York and quickly get a wake up call to some real tribal vibes that exist amongst the old timers and others, I'm neither a warrior or tribal I just exist as a vet who knows the streets and get that respect from all. The Name is Amir Bey, Bey or OG as the younger people call me these days.. I have plenty of white brothers and sisters on the road so to that this is not racial just social. Great job though on bringing this to light for civilians to know about.

At least have the balls to sign your name. Which alias are you using this week? Sam Houston of under-the-weather bags, Dennis Riggs , Jon K, gofastordie or Jaysilent from bikeforums.

"Tribe status: warrior" That shit is pretty cringeworthy. Tribe is just a hipster word to use for community. Messengers are a community, even down to deliveroo riders and the like. They are all doing the same shit, just in different ways.
