Great stuff! One of the thrills of my life is when my dad Stan Levey took me to see Max at Shelly’s when I was about 18 or 19, we went backstage to the little room and Max opened the door slowly with his shoe behind it just in case. Once he saw dad the door flew wide open they embraced kissed each other like long lost brothers, that was something to behold the love that passed between them. Then when he came on stage he put a heavy drum lesson on me lol, knowing dad he probably told him to play so he’ll give it up. Not really but it was mind boggling to witness. The intensity and musical ideas were a thing of beauty!!! Thanks for sharing your ideas. Blessings

Max was an innovator. Not just a drummer, but a Musician! He drummed for sure, but he composed as well. That speaks volumes to me. The very first time I heard Max, I was maybe 11 or 12 years old, and it was on "Sing, Sing, Sing" off the Rich vs, Roach Album. Yes Buddy was fast and clean; but Max's solo was so darn melodic. This man told stories behind the drums & it took me along on a ride that makes Max's playing a real favorite of mine.

Thank you Joe for sharing about this. Max was such a melodic drummer and he could make the drums talk, or so to speak. Much appreciated and keep playing 😮
