I would put a Tungsten/Wolfram liner in the barrel for the pan hole. Nice exploration of the finest of flintlock designs. I remember as a kid seeing flintlock target pistols in the L.A. County Museum. I noticed that they were made with sliding safety bars, roller bearings, set triggers, advanced riffling, and wonderful sights.

Chap, in the past you made indoor practice ammo for other guns. Have you thought about practice ammo for this gun. Maybe a very small main charge with a rubber or eraser bullet. The problem would be a small charge that gives the correct bullet drop over the 6 or so meters in your in-door house range, that would not bounce back at you.

Chap, Last night I was reading about the New Federal cartridge the "Cal 30 Super Carry". It says cal 30 but ball diameter is 0.312" ball diameter so cal 32 really. This new cartridge sounds like what is know in the USA 32 Long French the pre-WW2 French pistols (one question what was thew French official name ?). I would like to check dimensions of the two cartridges. Have you look at the new cartridge ?
@thebotrchap
2 жыл бұрын
I know of it but from what I’ve heard it’s substantially hotter so let’s hope the cartridges are not interchangeable 😅 The French designation was simply « cartouche de 7,65 L » sometimes the packaging would indicate whether it was intended for pistolets or smg but to my knowledge there wasn’t any actual difference in loading.

@@thebotrchap Per April edition American Rifleman the 30 super carry will come out in two different bullet weights 100gr @ 1,250 Fps and 115 gr @1,150 Fps. Really interesting stuff. I was under the impression that the fly is there specifically to allow the lock to function with a set trigger? Because with a set trigger, the sear will not be held back by the user through the trigger but is only knocked away and is free te return immefiately? I know in the Winchester lever-actions, such a fly was only present if the weapon was equipped with a set trigger?
@thebotrchap
2 жыл бұрын
The problem I describe is still present with a standard trigger when applying gentle pressure on the trigger. If you yank on it then sure the sear will be well clear of the tumbler, but then you have pulled your shot.
@peterconnan5631
2 жыл бұрын
@@thebotrchap surely only if the geometry of the tumbler is "wrong"? If the bottom of the half-cock notch is at a smaller radius than the full-cock notch, then the sear would not contact it if held in the position where it released the tumbler?
@thebotrchap
2 жыл бұрын
@@peterconnan5631 In theory yes but also think that finger tissue is also elastic, couple that with a strong sear spring and the sear can spring back towards the tumbler after release. It’s a lot of ifs and buts that are all solved by the fly. If you think about it, if you do a proper follow through even with this set trigger the sear is held clear of the tumbler.
