I love using this same setup in karate! It's so interesting how many of the techniques were taken from savate.

This was a move I learned after watching Bruce Lee do it against Hwang In Sik in "Return of the Dragon"(although he transitioned into a right roundhouse snap kick instead). I was pretty successful using it a lot in sparring during my kickboxing training days back in the 90s, caught a lot of sparring partners in the gut with this move, but you need to spin around to your left after kicking with your right leg so you end up in a left orthodox stance to avoid getting hit with a left hand counter when you retract your right kicking leg. Another favorite Bruce move I used a lot in sparring was the rear leg oblique stomp kick feint then switch to a lead snap roundhouse kick combo he used against Chuck Norris in the finale fight. It sets up a good overhand right to finish it.

There is a video on KZitem that explains how traditional karate got its flashy kick from savate. I’ve been practicing both for years and it shocked me!

There’s a theory that karate adopted a number of high kicks from Savate during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. I first heard the theory from one of Jesse the Karate Nerd’s videos and thought it was very interesting and sounded plausible. Do you have any thoughts on this theory and/or have you seen any evidence?

Oh my gosh I already ❤❤❤😂😂😂 that so much because I use an outside crescent like that after a feint front kick often if they go to block by watching their movement. I love it. Flicky kicks are the best. I don't like slow powerful kicks that get countered easily.

Savate has some great kicks however , I have trained in CQC and with Special Forces Kicks aren't really recommended avd when thrown , no higher than the ribs , it's too easy to make a mistake and get killed in the ring? sure life or death? not really
