I follow Matthew Clemons as he takes us to the scene of destruction in the urban fishing habitat - an oxbow along the Trinity River, in Fort Worth, Texas. It's the Clear Fork of the Trinity, a popular place for trail walking, but apparently many of the young walker's interests do not extend beyond the nearby REI Sale, and the shoes on their feet. Too bad ...
It's a place Matthew has fly fished for about thirty years, and now the inside of the oxbow has been clearcut and leveled with fill dirt. All the construction spells disaster for a small piece of the original Trinity Riverbed, where fish and birds came for refuge from extreme heat and cold.
This is all happening within shouting distance of Fort Worth REI, and heavily traveled river park trails and other locations people fly fish, like Acme Hole where the TRWD's FlyFest happens every year.
According to Clemons, this destruction will lead to worse fly fishing all along this stretch of the Trinity River in Fort Worth, and is already almost irreversible.
Another urban fly fishing location bites the dust of "progress."
