Big hint: join the Elks and the Moose. They both are worthwhile social and charitable groups, and both accept both men and women, and .... both have many lodges (not all) with overnight camping, some with hookups and some just dry camping. We recently stayed at Elks in Savannah GA and Zephyrhills FL. Usually pay by donations.

Yes! Thank you for this! My family thought I was nuts but I booked our FL Keys trip 11 months in advance and our Glacier/Yellowstone/Grand Teton trip for September 13 months in advance - great advice

We have been doing exactly as you suggest! The next fearful step in planning..THERE MAY BE FUEL SHORTAGES! Truckers are NOW being limited on how much fuel at each fill up…and it’s not 2022 yet…be prepared!

Chicago: almost always boondock camping at "The Marshalling Yard for McCormick Place" right downtown Chicago. Safe. No services or hookups, but last time only $35/night in downtown Chicago.

Interesting, booked a trip today from NC to TX, We leave Thursday. 10 stops along the way. No issues with finding/booking a place that we liked. RV trip wizard is the best planner out there.

We never plan ahead. I plan on vendor events and then play it by ear as to in-between days. We are still a newbie on our 2nd rv traveling with 3 yorkies. Probably need to plan ahead but never seem to know about money far ahead.

I had used RV Parky, for years and even had some conversations with the Owner/Developer of the app, great guy. I recently followed the recommendations of another RV blogger and am giving RV Trip Wizard a try. I have to say I am about 50% convinced the change was a good one, a few more months to be sure. I do like the ability to plan for fuel stops, driving range planning but as I said time will tell.

Before the pandemic, our plan was to head up to bar harbor Maine, after that we were going to drive back to Kansas and equip our van to drive down through Mexico and Central America and ship our van from Panama to Cartagena Colombia. From there down to Argentina .

And my last hint: ASK at places you visit that have large parking lots if you can boondock overnight at the end of the day.... ask when you buy your entry ticket or call ahead. We have done this often. They may be surprise you asked. But we have been successful. We have also called churches and asked to stay in their parking lot. You will be surprised how often you will be able to overnight free.

Thanks for another great video. I need to get better at planning so, was taking notes lol. Just got our rig back so definitely excited to get back on the road. We definitely have to book 6 months out for the most coveted California State Parks. I was just looking today and the next furthest date is May 6. It's hard to stay on top of it but, if you want to book a major holiday you have to be ready at 8 am PT. It used to be midnight but, they changed it. You can usually find something on the day of though won't be for more than one night. safe travels to you beautiful family!!

ok one more: it is legal to stay overnight in all Interstate rest areas in Michigan. I have that in writing from my state rep. Likely true in other states too. Call and ask. Also free to stay overnight in the casinos in Michigan... and some have campgrounds.

A couple years ago we were at mile zero of Route 1 (south) on the east coast - Key West. This year we plan to go to mile zero of Route 1 (north) in Maine, stopping at Moosehead Lake on the way up, then meander back down the coast. Visit lighthouses, eat lobster, and add a couple states to our map. We had planned to do this in 2020, but...ahem...something got in our way, Maine closed down, and we had to adjust our plans. Really looking forward to it. Maine is beautiful! Edit to add: Maine State Park campground reservations open Feb 1... I will have it queued up on my laptop when they are set to open it up.

alot of places let you book one year out and you have to call early on that year date or it is already booked full. I have had that problem a few times. Mark your calendar to call on the year away date to make sure you get it :D

We are planning a 5 month trip starting in May. Already having trouble getting sites. We have two friends joining us for 2 months so that makes traveling a little different. They have big rigs and need electric. My husband and I fly by the seat of our pants often. Can stay on BLM land. Sounds like we need to get more sites nailed down. Thanks for the advice and spread sheet.

I got into RV like my husband always was wanting to travel and to take me different states that I have never got to speak and I'm going from Indiana to Arizona I have not seen much of Arizona and the other parts of states around the world so we bought a 1995 1999 founder Fleetwood 34 37 ft and he gets later on we can't out at Walmart parking lot when we're able to and flying J's but then he gets really really sick we had to park it in a trailer park and then he passed away so I end up my son and my daughter so she had to be in a wheelchair so we did have somebody to get it wheelchair accessible so we move into apartment and stay there for 16 years I end up selling my RV and I missed my RV I love to travel and my son said eventually when we get straight around we're working on getting a vehicle and everybody sure we're going to get a trailblazer or Tahoe and we're going to get a toy hauler so we can take our motorcycle with us and travels to California Vegas and some other states so I can see some things

Frankly, seems a contradiction to evaluate individual campsites, via your sponsor's services, especially in busy areas, when you just emphasized how difficult it will be to get ANY campsite (!) in those areas: any site will be perfect as long as it is big enough.
