As someone who once worked in a 'local' supermarket when I was 18 (small co-op if you want to know), when a delivery comes in, it goes onto the shelves straight away. There wasn't that much else to do. If it ain't on the shelf, it ain't in the back either. If you ask someone in a small shop to check in the back for something, here's what they do; go through the door, wait 45 seconds, then come back and tell you it's not there.

I now take a picture of any new item I see on my list before leaving home . Yeah still get the wrong size.

I used to watch my mum selecting the Black Pepper ham. Boy was she picky. Not too fatty. Not too pail or too red 😀 No chance with me I'd just pick 1st to hand and say it was the last left on the shelf. Of course she fire back did you ask the help to get ham from the store room. 😀 Also the classic take from the back. The same for eggs. The list was proper intense. I made the compromise I'll drive her to the store but I'm not going in and ill lift the shopping into the car and house.
@rosiefay7283

Ah, now this is exactly why the one who makes the list should do the trip. You decide which shop to go to, and if that one doesn't have what you need, that's your lookout, you don't get to blame anyone else. And all those things you know but you don't put on the list, like what if they're out of what you prefer -- you know what to get instead. Doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman going.
@sonnyxlbright5904

If only life as a couple could be that straightforward ! The wives give you this impossible shopping list which is usually set in stone before you leave home. You know, set in stone, non-negotiable, that sort of thing. Then, they go out and you watch them drop one item after another from this 'non-negotiable' list. Keeping in mind that this is exactly what you weren't supposed to do as the man, you can only watch in shock and surprise as she swaps items in and out of the shopping list willy nilly because, as she sees it, it's her prerogative ! You just don't have the same rights to go to shops and get her anything slightly different from what she has requested. I watch it all, these days, in total amusement which I'm still not brave enough to let her see, even after 22 years of being together !!
