My 12 year old daughter makes around $70.00 every 2 weeks just doing cans and plastics. So a $140 a month. In California aluminium is $1.10 a pound and plastics are $1.00 a pound.. She has collected a Crap load of cooper wire too that I just stripped down for her and that is $ 2.40 a pound for that. She collects all this from dumpsters at construction sites and got approval from the site super attendance to collect on their sites..

I did a lot of scrapping in my life. In 2008, I bought an Oxford MRI magnet for $1500.00, then broke it down. 3 days later I sold it, and took in a grand total of about $26,000. Stainless was $1.85/pound at Cronimet. Copper was close to $4.00. The aluminum was in the 90-some cent range. I bought a lot of MRIs over the years, that was the best haul ever, at least for the amount of work I did and the ease of it. The Oxford bolted-end units were close to 17.000 pounds, all non-ferrous. About the heaviest of the old magnets. I took in large amounts and got into the mills and smelters through scrap brokers like Luria Division. Roll-off or partial semi loads. Made more money back then than a drug dealer!

Copper is poisonous to ingest, so a copper vessel made for food, like a tea kettle or something like that is often coated on the inside with tin. Just a thin layer. 👍

Actually if you allow copper to corrode to much it can be poisonous and Fake copper is really what is poisonous. 100% is actually very good for your health. Copper is also used in Ayurvedic medicine. Ancient egyptians were known to drink and eat from copper dishes for health reasons. It kills bacteria, energizes water if you store water in it over night and it has a host of other benefits. We have copper in our food as well in trace amounts.

Taco, you can shop around for the yards that pay the best. The bigger yards usually pay more so it pays to hang onto non-ferrous metals till they build up and get rid of the large items of tin at the most convenient yard. Also the yard that I go to most often pays more if you have over 100lbs; don't know if that is common practice or just their thing but an extra 10 cents a pound adds up. (I think it is 10 cents but don't remember for sure, I just try to make sure I have more then 100 lbs so I get the higher rate.

someone had put a brand new GE water dispenser out by the curb, so I looked it over briefly I didn't see anybody come out it was on the curb because that's what people put trash that they feel is still usable by somebody and so I put in my van took it home plugged it in and didn't see or hear anything so I unplugged it and forgot it about it for a while that evening I went and I plugged it in again and this time because it was dark I seen a light flash as I was plugging the light into the outlet in the wall and as I shook the outlet a little bit the lights started flickering so what I did was I squeeze the two connectors that go into the wall socket together a little bit so that it had a tighter fit in the wall socket and it worked perfectly there was nothing wrong with it I used it for a while that has hot it had cold and it had lukewarm water what a great find

Taco Stacks - Power cords are usually AC for Alternating Current and are copper because it is a great conductor of electricity and it take a higher heat to melt than aluminum does and electricity generates a lot of heat. Usually used in houses and business, factories and the like. For a while they tried using aluminum to wire houses and especially mobile homes and it caused a lot of fires so now the rule is generally copper wire except in DC voltage Direct Current which is generally in electronics and vehicles. Copper wire is normally 99% copper as to where copper tubing is usually 95% copper.

The first time I did any scrapping, my ex teased me for wanting to clip the lights off the strands until he found out how much more we could have gotten for them... Plus I use them for making jewelry, so it's definitely not a complete waste. And I'll bet you could sell them in bulk on Etsy or Ebay as craft supplies, so then you're really not wasting your time by clipping off the lights. :)

You asked about what was inside the copper pot. That is tin. The tin prevents food, or water, from coming into direct contact with the copper, which could make the drink, or food, taste terrible. Also, copper is somewhat poisonous if consumed in quantity so the tin help reduce the amount of copper we ingest.
