Barbie fashions were always more expensive than the dolls themselves, so I learnt how to sew at 5, so I could dress them up differently every day of the week. I still sew them tiny little extravaganza outfits, but I did learn how to make actual garments - and that would've never happened if it wasn't for Barbie.

A friend of my boyfriend recently passed away, and my boyfriend was in her will to get some of her items and collectibles. He found me an original 1959 Barbie, in mint condition and authenticated. I say that to say, I get it. I get the excitement over collectible Barbies now and it's all thanks to you Trixie (not to mention I've taught my boyfriend a few things thanks to your knowledge.) A couple of years ago I was hanging out at my neighbor's house and their kid was playing with her barbies which included all of her mom's dolls from the late 60s early 70s (my childhood) and her mom and I kind of just slowly edged her out of the way and started dressing the dolls. Let me tell you STRESS RELIEF. It's so fun and relaxing. I was so impressed with how well these toys had held up to decades of play. The clothes esp. the official Barbie clothes (not so much the home made DIY clothes) were all still functional.

“Negro” was the socially-accepted term at the time. From Wikipedia: “Negro" was accepted as normal [...] until the late 1960s, after the later Civil Rights Movement. One well-known example is the identification by Martin Luther King, Jr. of his own race as "Negro" in his famous "I Have a Dream" speech of 1963. However, during the 1950s and 1960s, some black American leaders, notably Malcolm X, objected to the word Negro because they associated it with the long history of slavery, segregation, and discrimination that treated African Americans as second class citizens, or worse. Malcolm X preferred Black to Negro, but also started using the term Afro-American [...]”

My grandmother bought me my first Barbie when I was a kid , I guess around 1968 and the outfit I got to choose for her was the leather and lamb one that Trixie shows at the end of the video. It was FABULOUS !

All I care about is do you have that 90's "gay" Ken. I must know. I'll find out eventually I'm sure haha. But I will never get over 60's Barbie's make-up, I want it 24/7.

The white under-eye eyeliner wedge you did for this makes your eyes read SO much better on camera. I can actually track your pupils with this makeup. Great!

I didn't notice it until just now, but the outfit on the Talking PJ doll (the one Trixie liked a lot and had wallpaper to match) is very similar to the outfit that the Trixie doll would eventually be designed to wear.

That was exactly me! When I was younger, my mom would take out a box of Barbies for me to play with, and I would robotically brush their hair and then put them back in the box as soon as possible.
