The buses in Zurich don't even have to slow down when passing through special overhead wiring works such as switches and crossings, thanks to kummler + matter overhead contact lines and ultra light weight trolley poles. DEWIREMENTS NEVER HAPPEN TO THEM IN ZURICH!

Proper maintenance is also the key; failure to do this is anithetical to the Swiss. In my experience driving trackless trolleys at the San Francisco Municipal Railway, the specialwork was poorly maintained, and the rule was... 3-5 MPH while traversing it, and I don't doubt that poorly maintained switches & frogs also damaged & wore the carbon inserts prematurely. A savvy observer could tell the difference; the current collector shoes would make a racket when traversing rotten switches & frogs; new/well maintained switches & could be traversed very quietly. Proper & timely maintenance seems antithetical to the Municipal Railway (known as Muni)--if Muni were an airline, you wouldn't want to fly them.. Also, SF Muni did install K&M overhead in the north-east of SFO, but they never used K&M shoes, so they couldn't benefit from the better characteristics of K&M overhead. I haven't seen any of Ohio Brass's (the biggest supplier to trolley systems in the US) specifications literature on speed through its specialwork, so I can't say how fast OB specialwork (in optimal condition) could be traversed. Of course, physics will always dictate proper speed in overhead wires' turn-outs & curves. Interestingly, I had an opportunity to drive a trolley bus that had Kiepe shoes fitted to its OB booms that had about 30 lbs. of upward pressure; the Kiepe shoes worked remarkably well in all respects. I wrote a report to that effect, but of course, it went nowhere.

Fun to watch, especially when it goes around the hard-right turns (like starting at the 0:31 mark)! Good video. If I can make a suggestion, though, how about including a video clip filming one of these tight turns from the inside of the turn?

That's a very impressive bus. How does it go around corners without jumping onto the curb? Does the back end steer?
@stanleytolle416

Look where the wheels are place to the connection. They are a distance front from the connection. This causes the following section to follow the section in front. Hence the following sections do not jump curbs on turns.

This is technically NOT a bus but is a Roadtrain /Tram as anything with more than one Articulation is a Roadtrain or a Roadtram if it is on overhead cables The term " Trolleybus" applies only to single unit buses like those of old times & if it has more than one articulation it is a ROADTRAM.

I presume that you can't ever reverse in one of these because of the double articulation which would mean it can't be backed into or out of a repair bay - do they have drive through repair bays for them?
@pwhnckexstflajizdryvombqug9042

The rear axle on Bi articulate bendy buses can turn as well, so generally they can be set up to stead from the rear making reversing a lot easier. Also the rear axle is generally the one that is connect to the motors, so it is the one that drives. This also makes reversing very easy.

the quality of the trolleybuse is so so. There is a permanent draught by the driver, in winter it is especially bad. The steering holds the whole dashboard and because some of our roads in Zurich aren't the best, the hand joint has lots of vibrations to contend with. We have 17 of these buses in the fleet. THere are 2 videos of me driving trolley 62 in the Euro '08 colours on my homepage. Would love if you made a comment. Regards Edi
