The wrap of this horn literally puts it in like Bass F or Bass Eb. The mouthpiece receiver is a U pipe. That pipe goes near Peter's left hand to the main bell brace where it doubles back forward, and then doubles back to the rear, making what looks like an F trigger attachment, but with no valves and being on the leadpipe itself it is part of the horn. The the main tubing then goes forward into the main slide, comes back up, and into the bell bow and finally out of the bell. I imagine with that bell flare and the fact this thing is in ~F it should sound more like a slide bass flugelhorn or something.

I feel like this a less egregious error than the way guitar playing is animated. This was mostly in time without a ton of exaggerated movement, but watch an example of guitar playing from the same show and there's too many chord changes, out of time movement, and literally impossible hand shapes. Disney movies are really good at accurate animation, can't speak for Trombone but Guitar/Percussion/Trumpet are all generally perfectly represented. Coco is the best example of this, every musician is animated from irl references and it's freakin sweet.

@@ericlaska4748 I only play the trumpet, but I imagine it's probably about the same level of difficulty to play either one well. Of course they're different beasts though, one being a valved instrument, and the other usually a slide. Plus they play in different registers, and require a fairly different embochure. But at the end of the day it's just a lot of practice, lip slurs, air control etc. to control both, and musicianship is musicianship. To play with feeling, to be able to improvise (if you play music which requires that), these things are fairly universal, no?

@chillin5703
2 жыл бұрын
@@azylum1979 not a trombonist, but I played with a few in band, and I've messed with one. From what I understand, moving the slide in the trombone changes the note no matter what your mouth action is, so it's basically impossible after a certain point to keep a note as you move the slide around (which is important for legato). What this means is that if you continue "playing" while you slide it around like that, you're going to literally slur one note into another not in a legato style (which still has cutoffs, just smooth cutoffs) but with a bunch of between pitches getting played in between (unlike, say, a trumpet, where partially opening or closing a valve just doesn't make a good pitch because airflow is blocked; also why trombone players tend to switch positions rather quickly). This is why the notes sound like they do in the "realistic" portrayal - the family guy animators showed Peter going the right positions with his slide (from what I can tell, family guy is actually surprisingly good at animating instruments), but, either because they didn't know or didn't care to, they made his arm movements far too slow.

Well a bass trombone can play the same music as tenor trombone. A lot of the time they have to because there's not bass trombone music The only difference is the bore is much larger and the receiver is larger, so it's harder to play but it has a much richer low range and a really dark sound. Its tubing is the same length though so it has the same harmonics and can be used as a tenor trombone (although it's not ideal)
