Flynn: You want games?! i'll give you games-! 1:56 And that's exactly what Flynn's getting!

I'm just saying, Flynn's son gets a way better reception when he enters the Grid. :D

I saw this at the cinema in 1984.. Fairly sure it was the very first film to use CGI

Star Trek II came out a month earlier. It featured the CGI Genesis sequence. Before both was Star Wars in 1977 with some very primitive CGI displays.

@@NeilFraserthe only CGI in Star Wars was the sequence where they are in the briefing about the attack on the Death Star and they show a computer generated plan of it in wire frame. The Genesis footage was CGI with filled in graphic. Interestingly a fair bit of Tron was actually hand drawn animation, the grid bugs for example, the light cycles were CGI. Damm cool for it’s time.

This movie was decades ahead of its time. It still holds up today and I still prefer it over Legacy....although Legacy is damn beautiful in it's own right. Im glad I was a kid of 13 when I saw Tron and I hope todays kids had the same feelings I had when they saw the new one. Times have changed and its tech and story is no longer new to kinds of today like it was me of the tech ear of 1982. But its still cool.

Same opinion here. I was also 13 when I saw the pic in '82 and man, the premise and the visuals were totally awesome...! So when I went to see Legacy in 2010 I expected to be mind-blown again but... say disappointment is one polite way to put it. For me, the scenes in the original at 1:56 (Flynn being laser-dismanteled for downloading by the MCP) and 3:25 (appearing teleported at the lightcycle grid) totally blew my mind so I was expecting to see in Legay at least how would be the downloading from the real world to the digital one, and... NOTHING. NADA. No scene at all that not to say matched what we saw in the original at 1:56, but at least showed something, anything that tried to amaze the viewers. BIIIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Sure, Legacy was a feast for the eyes, but... for me, the level of awesomeness of just those 2 scenes overcome all of Legacy. IMHO.

@@eliascodecido1717 Every 80s movie is looks like trash compared to the past 20 years standard, including this one, the acting is bad, the music is awful, just looking at it hurt my eyes, meanwhile the quantum teleportation scene in legacy is way better than the entire first movie, yeah quantum teleportation as we've seen in legacy is more logical and way cooler than straight downloading people from the real world into the computer using laser beam, the way it scanning a freezing person in the air bit by bit looks so weird.

@@_martian101 Sure, whatever... I just haven't seen yet in Legacy the wondrous, fabolous, rmarvelous,-super-cali-fragilistic scene with that "way cooler quantum teleportation" you mention... It's a movie, man, I wanted to see something, anything as cool and imaginative as the laser-dismanteling-bit-by-bit you found weird, but no, what did we get to see? Just Sam walking out of the arcade to find now the sreet deserted, darker and stranger. Sorry but that "quantum teleportation scene" in Legacy that fpr you was "way cooler", IMHO had nothing on the original Tron scene with Flynn at ENCOM's laser bay being hit and digitized by the laser. But, whatever, as in everything else, it's just a matter of subjective opinion: For me, it was pure movie magic; for you, it was weird trash...

I was 10 when I saw Legacy. The graphics were impressive but not game changing to me. I remember my mom being really impressed by how well they managed to digitally recreate young Jeff Bridges but I had no idea lol. The visual design was very unique and I was obsessed with it for a while. I think the Legacy team did a really good job of maintaining the grid's distinct look even today where digital graphics are everywhere, without straying too far from the original which now resembles generic 90's digital graphics to those who don't know its release date. One of the visual elements that really stunned me was the light cycle materialization, I can see why the new movie focused so heavily on that one animation, it must've taken an incredible amount of work!
