It's a shame that the brakes weren't designed for easy access for repairs, glad you have the patience to complete the job 😍

Omg, I got a Volvo c303 and bought the full brake replacement set. This looks like a real challenge… I don’t have a lift to make it easier for me 😐 thanks for the content

Ouch, I just did parking brake shoes on my ridgeline, and it has a similar setup with the hub covering the hardware, but at least there are cutouts in the hub so you can access the springs - this one looks like a nightmare - I would have pulled the axles off.

Given how long you've seemingly spent on this brake job and how time this truck has tied up your lift, that must be an incredibly expensive brake job.

Imagine the military repairman dealing with tens of these trucks. Busy 25 hours a day.

There must be an easier way. Have you investigated removing the axles? Opening up the portal case and pulling the axles might actually be easier than working behind the hub. IDK, I have never worked on anything like this.

How bad is it to release the axles to slide them out ?

Yes, I was about to ask something like that. He is a respected technician who knows pretty well what he does, but I would like to have a look at the side of the gear unit if there is a possibility to get that axle-plus-flange out. Imagine there is a war going on and a brake cylinder stops working. It almost can not be true that during a war it has to be so complex and take days to change brake cylinders - I think

@@wtcnl Correct. A little extra might have gone a very long way to make the job easier.

@@norherman some times you need a really heavy slide hammer to get the axles out and open up the differential

I would imagine it's meant to be services all at once. Change fluid, check gears, bearings, change seals, cv joint. etc.

Surely there is a way to remove the flange, but it would likely mean you have to disassemble the entire gear reduction which might be only doable with specific custom tools. I've seen similar problems several times at the Master Milo channel. He has restored a T69-II tank (formerly owned by Saddam Hussein) and is currently restoring a BMP (light weight amphibious tank). He had to make some of the tools by himself in order to disassemble axles and other parts.
