Just on the locker topic, I had ARB air lockers in my Patrol for a good 3 years before I sold it with no issues at all. Just replaced Eaton E lockers in my Landcruiser 79 with TJM Pro Lockers and the design is so much better than the ARB, even more reliable. Never saw any locker dramas that weren't related to fitting issues it the years I worked for ARB either (after the update 8 years ago, before that they weren't great). As for the E-lockers, I would never touch them again. The thin cabling snapped inside the housing, resulting in the whole the centre needing to be removed to do a 15 second repair. If it got caught on a stick externally, chances are the cable will get ripped off inside the diff at the locker itself, rendering it pretty much useless. The ARB airlocker has a bulkhead fitting on the diff that will allow the hose to come off, and a repair kit for easy track aide repairs. The TJM is better again with much stronger hoses and fittings. Again, more reliable. And the biggest thing was I had no idea the e locker was faulty because its silent. It was hit the button and hope for the best. Most of the time, it was disappointing. At least the air locker gives you a signal via the compressor that it's working. So from personal experience owning all three, TJM is my favourite, closely followed by ARB, and I'd never consider a e locker again.

Planetary gears in Tjm lockers are bigger and stronger than arb or elocker, also doesn't disengage when rolling backwards. Do ya research boys, I found a few downfalls in harrop online but I'm sure they're ok

No rotating parts either. Just fitted the TJM locker to my Cruiser after running the ARBs in my Patrol and the difference is astounding. The TJM is such a better design. Also replaced my unreliable Elocker with the TJM lockers, never again.
@TheJanope13

I haven’t looked into it but I’ve heard tjm lockers also only use air pressure to switch from lock to unlock, unlock arb air leaker which require air pressure to keep it locked . Is that true? I’m aware e locker can crash locking when switching directions but didn’t know arb did too?
@NAGoodness
2 жыл бұрын
They both rely on air pressure to hold the locker on, you wouldn't want it the other way because if there's a compressor failure for some reason you can't unlock your diff. The way they're both set up, if you remove the air supply the locker automatically goes back to the unlocked position. You can turn them all on while moving, but looking at how they engage, I'd definitely avoid doing it wherever possible.
@charleywilliams7555
2 жыл бұрын
@@TheJanope13 Both ARB and TJM need air pressure to stay locked. The main difference is that the TJM Pro Locker has the air cylinder outside of the carrier so it doesn't need to seal on any rotating components. The ARB Air Leaker needs air pressure inside of the carrier to lock, so it has a rotating seal. Both are strong designs, much better than Harrop, but when set up properly the TJM should be much less likely to leak than the ARB.

I’ve got a rear ELocker in my 120 Prado which has made it so capable off-road. Cape York examples from mid year 2022, I walked it up the Palm Ck exit where a 200 series 3 cars before me blew its front diff, then the 200 series in front of me tried for 5 minutes to get up, then I walked up it. Mistake Ck... I went up it north to south. People there told me I’d need to winch to get up it. I walked the car up it with zero wheel spin where half a dozen 4wds had just previously slid down the steep decent into the creek. I’ve got other examples but my two CY ones are good enough. Anyone who criticises Elockers has never ever driven a 4wd with them fitted. Just putting it out there. And anyone who had issues with their elockers made the mistake of constantly engaging or disengaging g while in motion. The car has to be stopped. That’s user error. I’ve had mine fitted for 4yrs and my car is way more capable than previously. Like chalk & cheese.

The Fourth widening wheel track option is there is a kit available with longer axles and extendable hubs. Cut old stubs of on bolt on extension stubs easy to do yourself. I used to get yellow stickers on my Panel Van in my younger years for having 8'''on rear and 7'' on front.eg out of track. Yet these come imported out of track which technically is not with Australian standards! Red tape Wheel spacers are illegal in some states in Australia.

Over here in the states, 99% of the guys I run with have ARB Air Lockers and over several years (20 years to be exact), no issues at all. However, most of us have worked at ARB at some point the installs were done but the book. Even driving through brush, deep mud, no issues with fittings getting snagged or breaking.We have help others on the trail with not the greatest line routing and it was usually a 5 minute fix and they were off again. Most people here replace the e-lockers when they break with either an auto locker or ARB.

1) Everyone talks about correcting the wheel track yet they never mention that turning and going around a corner always makes the rear wheels track outside that of the front. 2) Presenter says that air locker hoses can leak due to damage - So can the breather hoses and all the other hoses under the vehicle. Not to mention all the factory and aftermarket wires. 3) The good old argument of where to put the other fuel filter - Putting another filter before the factory primary filter means that if the new filter gets blocked up it can allow the factory filter to not send early warnings to the driver. Placing it after the factory primary filter means that if the factory filter SYSTEM fails then the secondary filter will prevent bad fuel reaching downstream. I am sure no one reads my comments so let me expand on point one above : In sand, loose stones, ruts and slippery conditions every 4wd will fish-tail and swing side to side. 4wd "experts" have convinced themselves and others that there's a problem. You don't hear any park ranger, police officer, mine worker, indigenous group or cattle station worker ever complaining about the rear wheel track. I drive a 79 in 4wd low gear every day and I have never noticed a problem with the wheel track. There is no problem - unless your aim is to support the 4wd accessory industry. Having rims of different off-set's is not a huge problem but it's one you don't need to think about it when you understand that there is no problem to begin with. If V8 LC wheel track was a a safety issue as stated by the presenter then the police union in every state and territory of Australia would be black-listing Toyota. Out here in the bush we all drive 70 series and no one has changed their rims nor axle housing. Q : Who is having this awful terrible bad problem ? It appears only to be 4wd experts. The ridiculous thing is that these people must only drive in straight lines.

Yes you have to mount a compressor but it’s always handy to have onboard air for airing up tyres blowing out air filters or fuel lines blowing out the cab etc. also it’s a lot easier to find and repair a blown air line rather then find damaged/ broken wiring. I have spare air line and fittings if I do have a blow out touch wood I’m still ok. Keep the air line in conduit tubing and route it carefully and you’ll be right

Why do people need to upgrade the mirrors, I seriously do NOT understand it?? Are people that incompetent,I don’t get it.
@rossarcher1146
2 жыл бұрын
@@deanabrozki286 Ok. Mirrors perform 3 functions: showing us what’s behind us; showing us what’s next to us; and showing us the line on the road in relation to the rear wheel of our vehicle or trailer. With standard 79 mirrors, you need to pick only one of these options at a time. With truck style mirrors, you can see all 3 of these things simultaneously. They allow you to pinpoint the vehicle’s position on the road, especially whilst going around a corner, you can pinpoint a trailer’s position on the road, you can see if a vehicle is in your blind spot whilst changing lanes and you can also pinpoint your position whilst parking. All trucks have these style mirrors for this very reason and a truck is deemed unsafe and unroadworthy without them. It’s nothing to do with incompetence- even the best driver shouldn’t be trying to adjust their mirrors to change lanes, then adjust again to go around a corner, then adjust again to park their vehicle. If you get the opportunity to experience truck/towing mirrors you’ll see exactly what I mean and probably feel lost without them like I do.

Patrol has better and stronger diffs and other components. The discussion said that the Patrol has better and more roomier interior. It said that Patrol 4.2TD is much better powertrain.
