Wow!! Amazing how much abundance you can achiveve in 800 meters, I loved the part where you say you let spaces go wild so you can observe how it develops! I just have a question, does having so much stuff stacked up, does it drain the land quicker of its minerals maken it more sterile?

Great question: it should really do the opposite. If we look at the forest, it is super diverse, dense, stacked and only become more fertile over time. If we harvest a lot and don't give back, yes that can remove nutrients, but in general the interplay of diverse roots and microorganisms increasing soil life and fertility over time. It is pretty rare (except in highly degraded soils) for soils to lack the minerals for plants to grow; instead they usually need more microorganism life to unlock those minerals.

Awesome stuff, thanks so much for sharing Scott. Two quick questions if you don't mind... did you use a pond liner (super expensive over here and I keep putting off completing our pond because of this) and do you use anything to support your climbing beans and passionfruit?

For this little pond we just used an old sheet of black plastic. Liner works well if you don't have a flow of water or not enough clay in the soil to hold water. I use anything and everything for trellis. I found a bunch of cut off aluminum piping from a construction site we worked on, that is my favorite so far.

What’s the ideal spacing for the fruit trees if someone doesn’t want to prune them?

It completely depends on the tree species, climate, competition, etc. But over time most fruit trees will get quite large.
