If you like containers gardening it’s great but if you are use to gardening in ground it’s a learning curve! But if you are limited on space it’s worth the time to learn.

I'm new to this channel, i've been watching a few vids: that's one hell of a sophisticated farm you have there! my little garden here looks like a little jungle, but i'm glad most of the weed that grows in the middle of the turnips and the potatoes is medicinal herb, spares me some work. I don't have to weed much, LOL! Nature is perfect, taming it it's an art.

Long time vegetable and flower gardener. Not a fan of containers for veggies. I get it if you have little space or are a renter, but production suffers and watering/maintenance increases. Also in my area the soil temperatures in a container average 5 to 10 degrees hotter than ground Temps. This can become a problem with many vegetables.

I live in zone 8b Georgia and deal with triple digit temps in summer and understand your concerns. I recently purchased the leaf Green stalk to grow lettuces, spinach, arugula, swiss chard and beets in fall/winter so I could free up my raised beds for larger crops such as broccoli, kale, collards, mustard, rutabaga and cabbage. I'm hoping my plan is successful.

I was thinking about the issue of fertilizing and different plant needs. I suppose it would be optimal to have 2 Green Stalks to accommodate the different requirements. I just ordered my first one this week. It's too late here in SE Louisiana to grow lettuces but that is what I want to do in the Fall with mine.

Hello, I just bought a green stalk. I’m wondering do I need to roll my green stalk indoors if it’s going to rain. I have it on my upper deck patio that’s not covered. It’s rains all the time here in coastal SC & I travel a lot. Now I’m wondering if I can pull this off. I was going to set up a timed drip system for when im gone but just thought about our heavy rains. I did buy the accessory bug screen, wondering if that will help at all. Any tips welcomed! Thanks

Oops I added some peat moss on the bottom of the tiers but they did ok last year. I do not think the bottom tier gets enough sun and it is not caused from shading out from other plants.
@thebeginnersgarden

Yes, that can be an issue, when larger plants start to shade out the ones beneath. The plant supports (an option) do help with that.

Of all of the set ups that I have watched on KZitem, as well as the book that comes with the Greenstalk, it does not tell you how much potting mix or potting soil to put in each tier

I finally decided to give one of these a try and ordered one this weekend using your code. I'm in Tulsa so I have similar growing conditions. This will go out in my fenced in garden that is in full sun, but I do put up shade cloth on the majority of the garden. In general, would you recommend that I put this in full sun or under the shade cloth?
@delphine88313

I'm in 9b and let me tell you the sun was to strong on my crops.I had to move the green stalk.IF I put it back i would put shade cloth over it( I since have purchased some). Just my two cents.lol Even veggies that supposedly love sun was struggling on that side of my house.
@chariprice

@@delphine88313 I can only imagine what a struggle it would be growing in 9b 😬 I ended up putting it behind a cattle panel I grow tomatoes on so it will naturally be shaded by those later in the season, but also will be adding shade cloth in a few weeks and it will also be covered. I ended up not having a non shaded corner that was level enough for it. I’m not happy with my soil materials either and it has a bizarre texture that the top layer doesn’t hold moisture like it should. I just stuck a couple herbs in it and filled the holes with bush beans for now. I will either change out the soils in the fall or do something. Not sure I like the watering system either, but I really bought it to have a vertical way to plant things 🤷♀️ will see how it goes with not the best growing conditions this season anyway 😂

Plants in containers tend to burn easier. Keep them protected when it gets too hot. I live in a zone 5-6 in NY and there are days when the sun is too strong for my plants too.

Aren’t the grey discs resting in the soil? Mine always appear clogged🥴How do we prevent this? I took the tiers apart after I watered and they were full of water and not draining into the tier below BUT it did come out the drain spout at the bottom🤔
@thebeginnersgarden

I try to keep the level just under the discs clear so the soil doesn’t clog the holes. I ensure the water is coming out by feeling the soil under the tiers and making sure it’s moist.

I sold mine for $90 on craigslist. In my honest opinion it is a thing for first time gardeners and is not cost effective. They sent me one for free maybe 5 years ago when it was new. I don't like it. I told the lady that bought it that I thought it was junk but she bought it anyway. She had an apartment with a balcony so maybe that is this for that.

I've heard from a lot of people since I've had my Greenstalk and everyone else I've heard from over the last 18+ months have raved about theirs, so all that to say, I think you'll like it! (Several people just in the last two days have told me they bought another with this sale because they like what they have so much.) I have even bought them for a friend and a family member because I have found them to be so enjoyable. I do believe if you use it, it will pay for itself before long (depends on what you grow in it, obviously).

Gardening is trial and error whether it's in ground, pots, a greenstalk, etc.. Just because you didn't have good luck doesn't mean it's junk. I've had great luck with mine. It's perfect for lettuce, herbs, beets, and strawberries in my opinion.

I'll tell you my experience with Greenstalk. I ordered the 1st one as a leaf 5 tier. I got the base on wheels. Absolutely no issues with it. Then with coupon I ordered the original 5 tier. No base and it's level, has fallen over 2 times now. Excuse excuse excuse and they will send me a refund when I send it back! Are you kidding me? It's not top heavy, put together properly and it's planted with recommended mix. All I asked for was another base. Not willing and from the son-in-law of owner. So I'm telling everyone to not trust Greenstalk to do the right thing!

How hard is it to lift the FILLED tiers on top of each other??? Im older & have no one to help me
@slhemp3556
10 ай бұрын
The filled tiers are very heavy. It may easier for you to fill them as you place them in their permanent position. Ex. Place the first one in the position that you’d like, then fill it with soil. Next, place the second (empty tier)on top of the filled tier, and add soil to the second tier. Continue this process until you have as many tiers as you’d like (you don’t have to use all of the tiers). I hope I didn’t say anything that is incorrect, but if I did, hopefully someone will correct the mistake.
