My favorite power amplifier since i was a young lad. Nice to see it put through its paces in testing but what we did in 'real life' was something else. The P2201 and P2200 delivered big time before the compact power amps came along. Wonderful reporting!

This is really impressive! Both the repair and the amp.

You may want to consider checking for oscillation. That will build heat just about faster than anything.... I have also found that dried up electrolytic caps will cause DC on the output, as well. When those things change value, bad things start happening. Ones near heat sinks are highly suspect. Same thing in old analog TV's... On the verticle output stage, which is just a push-pull audio amp, really, the caps change value do to drying out, because they are right next to a heat sink. Replace them and all worked fine. On these old power amps, many techs skip over testing caps....

The device used for overheating protection is just a thermostat.
