Nice adventure. We had 31mm of rain over here in one big downpour. It sounds like a good fall but it has been so dry virtually nothing even got to the Gilbert River. It all soaked into the ground. Keep the videos coming.

I am finding unweighted or extremely lightly weighted black creature baits about 1 inch long are getting the fish. Mudeye and yabcraw types. Also, flies. Wooly Buggers and Bead Nymphs and Mrs Simpson. Globugs are still getting the fish, but the bigger streamers are seemingly getting interest. I am thinking next week will probably be the last of my opening as the weather is getting a bit warmer. The natives and reddies have been a bit quiet, but now they should really pick up and the trout settle down for summer. I will probably run a wet/dry combination fly rig.

Cool seeing some blackfish. Tell ya though, I managed to hit a PB Reddie in the basin while counting down the Sundays (6 Sundays now) till cod opening. The Reddie went 41cm, the others were decent but the shoulders, tail and the size was crazy!!! I said, if he went 45cm, I would’ve had a phone call to get a taxidermy but he’s a suburb fish for dinner

The Blackfish are going ok out there so that's a good sign the water in that place is in good nick. Yeah the yabbies are funny in that they only seem to want to live in the warmest, grossest looking dams, though there was one place I knew of way up in the high country of NSW that was crystal clear, awfully cold nearly all year round and was just infested with them for some reason. It had a lot of reeds in it though so they do like to hide and chew on them.
@robbiefishing
Күн бұрын
Thanks mate. I think they live in clear water more than we think, but they tend to hide during daylight hours. The cold water this is certainly unusual though.

G'day Robbie. Have you ever taken a photo of a Whip bird? I'm damned if I can even spot one let alone get a photo of one. Those blackish look creepy to me. Eek. Up the Buckland again tomorrow and Tuesday. See if anythings changed even though it's only a week since I fished it last. Here's hoping somethings changed and the fish come out to play.
