You need to specify exactly what Torx driver to use on the clutch drum! My clutch drum has a Torx driver Hex Security which is different then using a normal Torx head.

I too need to know the specific torx bit to remove the clutch drum. All I have are too large to fit in the housing and hate to say it but reverted to a saws all. I still gotta put the new one on. You saved me a lot of time. Glad to subscribe.

On the TB525CS, I had the take the entire plastic trigger assembly off, to get to the clutch assembly. Also, the rope thing didn't work as well as shown, but I improvised something, and got it done. Thanks for the video, it definitely helped.

I just replaced my clutch last year and already had again. 29cc 4 stroke Craftsman. Wondering if my alligator trimmer is causing it to wear out early? Used for personal home use only, but I have a lot of bushes I trim.

So I have a Troy-Bilt trimmer TB575 EC and it’s a 4 cycle I changed out the clutch with the kit for my model. My question is the kit came with two large washers and two small my model has the one larger and two small so that is how I put it back together or was I supposed to put the 2 bigger one’s under the clutch

I Have a problem described as slipping under load, which indicates a worn clutch pads problem, after checking everything else, and the bottom drive shaft is good but my machine was only used for one season! Could it be anything else? The upper drive shaft, or anything at all , and is it covered under the limited warranty? Last Question; I noticed in the video and on my machines that seem to require special tools, could you tell me what screw driver is requires because my sets of bits likely have it, but don't fit into the access hole ,it's narrow and my eyes are weak

What's your advise if the clutch will not break loose. I have tried multiple wrenches including channel locks. I hesitate to use a lube as the oil will effect the clutch. I would not buy this again. Just trying to replace the recoil pull start rope you have to pull the entire machine apart.

The clutch on my Troy-Bilt TB22 only lasted 1 season. It spins until you touch grass. A new one is only $90 but the clutch is about $20 and I'm not even sure if it's the shaft cable or not.

Hello, I have a question about clutch and drum. I have a TB590EC and when I tilt up and down the trimmer I see and hear the drum moving up and down. is it normal to have a play on the drum (moving forward backward)? could it be only the screw securing the drum that is loose ?. I have not disassemble the trimmer but I will inspect this if you confirm that should not have any play on the drum part.
@FIXTechGuides

Hi Martin. If you're noticing play on the drum, it could certainly be that loose screw. Here's a link to the parts page for that model trimmer on our website. www.ereplacementparts.com/troybilt-tb590ec-41adz59c766-trimmer-parts-c-26780_27267_214174.html There will be several videos there that can probably better answer your question!

I have the same problem, this was given to me and was slipping, someone had greased the inside of the drum so I cleaned it and put it back together but noticed the drum moved about 5 or 10 mm up and down the shaft, figured drum was broken but a new drum had the same problem. Thinking of putting two big washers on which reduces play to about 1mm as noted by Patrick Sweeney. Perhaps someone has figured it out? Thanks all.
@BiOs2k

I've disassembled the drum and clean up with brake cleaner. I've put all together and still have a play on the drum even if the drum screw is tight. Everything function as normal even if the drum move. I don't see any failing part of excessive wear anywhere. So my only guess is that play is normal.. Shaft is not turning at idle and clutch/drum engage correctly when RPM rise.

It would help more if you would say if the screw is lefthand or right and what kind of bit is needed, it isn't always possible to see these things looking on.
