Thanks. I think you just figured out my problem. I replaced a belt after breaking it then snapped another one. I replaced both idler pulleys and it worked great until I lost tension. I'll be dropping the deck again this weekend.

Hello. I just wanted to drop a line and THANK YOU for the tip on adding tension to the PTO cable spring. The blades would not engage because the belt was not tight enough. So I moved the PTO cable spring from that first hole to the far edge of the idler arm. I tried to move it to the hole in the middle but could not. Anyway, the move to the edge increased the tension on the belt and the blades now engage. MANY THANKS AND GOD BLESS!!!!

Hi. Any tips on how to align the idler pulleys? It looks like mine are not level with each other and I think that's making my belt slip. I replaced the belt keepers and had burned 2 belts getting to where I am now, have the 96 in belt that fit fine, but I went to mow today and got thru most of it but the belt slipped again. It is slipping underneath the left ilder pulley and getting wedged in such a way that I have to remove the left idler pulley to get it out - there's no way to simply pull the belt back into place using fingers or a screwdriver. Thanks for ANY help - I just want to be able to mow my lawn without my belt slipping! Thank you thank you thank you!

I just acquired one of these mowers and the original owner said that the belt kept coming off. I got it home and removed the deck. Got a new 96 inch belt from tractor supply. Also saw that one of the spindles was worn out. Replaced that. Still had the belt jump off. Looked at a few videos and they all say that the pulley guards act as a belt keeper, so I just ordered two from Amazon. I'm hoping that's the fix.

@@Dangbo3030 awesome. I need 1 more pulley guard myself. I’ve got everything ordered and just need time to install everything. Let me know (please if you will) if this fixed your problem. I also have a bad spindle I’m replacing.

Did you ever find the issue? I’m having the same problem myself. An OEM extension spring helped a little, but now my blades only spin when the deck is up all the way, but they don’t spin fast enough to cut.

ALways buy the 96" belt. The extra 1/2 inch on the OEM belt just makes everything a bit too loose for my liking.

The new belt on my Bronco is very loose. Part of the problem I found is the brake puck or brake pads for the pully's are cut and worn causing excessive travel in the idler system. If your replacing belts then I'd recommend replacing the brake pads for both pulleys.

My issue is I don't think my cable is broke but it has a lot slack where it bolts up under seat. It finally pulls the spring on the deck once the lever gets almost to the bottom when trying to engage the blades. The pulleys don't close or release. The blades cut off while I was cutting.

One problem that I have/had is, the tensioning spring tends to rub on a pulley, when disengaged. Eventually, the spring gets cut off from abrasion. I might built a support saddle/bracket, preventing the spring to sag too low, when disengaged. Thanks for sharing Frank.

Nicely done. Thanks. Your video has obviously helped lots of mower owners. Speaking of the blade engagement cable. It runs through a bracket underneath on left side of the mower frame. The cable fitting requires a hitch pin which can be inserted ONLY after the bracket is removed from the frame. On my Troy Bilt rider, which is 19 years old, that bracket is attached with screws and the threads had stripped, so I reattached the cable bracket with galvanized bolts.
