Great review, I just bought these this year for the first time too. We are lucky to have this company trying to keep the vintage look going with up to date LEDs.

Thank you! I found out about them a little too late last year, but as soon as they said product was ready, I ordered. Yes, it is awesome a company finally stepped up, and made decent LED lights!

They really did a great job with those. Side by side, you'd have to take a good hard look at them to tell the difference. Up on the house though, I think the directionality/shadows the filaments would create would give it away that they are not incandescents. Still, very good though. As the saying goes, often imitated, never duplicated.

They sure did! Definitely limitations to the technology, as far as directionality goes. That's why I paired Jeweltones with clear miniature incandescent bulbs, cuts down on that being as noticeable. At least it's proven the colors can be gotten correct, and that is a huge advance. I remember back to the first time I saw LED Christmas lights, and saw how awful those looked. They've really come a long way, but incandescent still rules my display.

Incandescents will always have a certain charm. But the cost offset of running them VS these LED ones, both on longevity and power consumption, makes up for any slight win the incandescents get (at least in my opinion). I went with the Tru-Tone Classic Colors for outside (C7), and the Jeweltone for a few displays inside.

If they could just get rid of that pesky flicker, they'd be perfect! LED bulbs have greatly improved since the mid-00's. However, I'll continue to use a combination of Tru-Tone, and incandescent, as the Tru-Tone bulbs allow me to have a bigger display, with my limited circuits to operate them. One box of 25 bulbs is around 40 bucks, plus tax, and shipping, while a box of equivalent bulbs is under 10 bucks, plus tax, and shipping. That $40+tax+shipping _may_ equal the additional electric I pay for, to run the incandescent display for one month, 4-5 hours, each evening. It will take many years to at least break even on my Tru-Tone investment, with electric savings. Even with the occasional burn out, still cheaper for me to run incandescent bulbs, at this time.

@@dynatrak Ah, yeah, I run mine for usually around 3 months (Nov-January), then swap the bulbs to other color sets during the spring, summer, and fall for general lighting on my front porch. I also run them from 5pm to about 7am (when I walk the dog in the morning) every day. I'd say, if I added it up, I run them about 130ish 24 hour days a year. Incandescents, both in power consumption and in burnout, would cost me more than the initial $40/25 bulbs cost. So, for me, well worth the investment. As to the flicker thing, they could address that with higher refresh rate LEDs in the bulbs, but that would cost more money. All LEDs flicker in that way, some less than others that drive the diodes a little harder.

Yeah, they did good with those. I still think green needs just a touch of work, and it will be perfect. I usually don't decorate for Easter, but that basket they made with the ModMix looks awesome! I'm guessing you got that email as well.

@@dynatrak yes, but haven’t bought any. I did put mine on a dimmer today to see how they work. I have some candle glow, I left up.

I agree with everything you observed. The Tru-Tones are 95% perfect, just feel the "pink" is way too red. Love that GE D33 magenta! Maybe next year Tru-Tone will have a copy of the D33 magenta, I'd buy a whole box of those!

Thank you. Indeed, the 95% perfect describes these bulbs accurately! I was looking up some info on the D33, and GE called it "rose," only available for 1968. Looks more like magenta to me in person. I'd absolutely like to find some more of those bulbs! They are stunning, in person.

@@dynatrak last year I got lucky and stumbled on 2 of the D33 5 packs, NOS, that had "rose" bulbs. So, now I have 2 but they are hard to find. I wonder why GE gave up on that color so quickly?

@@jasonw8124 Oh nice! You know what I mean about that color then! Not sure why that product line was scrapped after just a few years. They look so much better than the Cool Bright line that replaced them! Every time I find some D33 bulbs, I buy them.

@@dynatrak yup, I'm always looking for them also, and I don't mind the twinkle versions either. I do buy Cool Bright bulbs too, if they are the USA made ones.

Yes, the D26 Twinkles are great as well, I have some on my front porch this year. I don't pass up the USA Cool Brights either, but don't have any used in my light display this year. I've got a few of the larger early D80's as well.
