I am Vietnamese but was born and raised in the USA. I am now retired in Vietnam now. Students in the USA can go to public schools for free. A hardworking student can get through high school easily. Black culture in the USA looks down upon academic achievement. This mindset means that a primarily black student populated school is screwed. I personally went to schools with a lot of white kids. You just try harder when there are other kids around you doing the same. My high school had a mix of races. The valedictorian was a female black student. She was extremely intelligent and articulate. Candace Owens said there are certain folks who are pushing the degradation of black culture. She may be right. Totally screwed up if your culture looks down on academic success. In Vietnam, parents HAVE to pay for their children's education. Books, supplies, uniforms, etc. Academic success is widely desired but hard to achieve with classrooms being extremely large (50 kids in a public school classroom). Competition is fierce. Many kids don't get their high school diploma since they don't have the aptitude to get through difficult coursework. The high school math in Vietnam is magnitudes way more difficult than USA high school math. Because of this, there is extreme income inequality. Most folks are poor and stay poor, but some rise up and become wealthy.

I am a Black American and I appreciate this analysis, a lot of thought went into this. I would like to add some depth to this conversation. It is important (I believe) to not only look at academic achievement and access Quantitatively, but also qualitatively as well. The quality of education does not seem to be addressed here. We need as well to look at the cost vs value of higher education. There are also cultural factors within America as a greater society that has factors in the quantity of accepted students based on ethnicity. I enjoy this perspective but I fear it’s woefully underrepresented by many factors.

Hello. First of all I am AA, my parents divorced when I was young, so I was raised by a single mother. I'm not going to rage out because of title, I do see what you're talking about. Using "will always" will diffintely trigger some to react. Generational wealth does affect blacks because of years "redlining", Jim Crow in the past, and in straight out racist practices have placed obstacles in front some. With that being said, it's up to the parents and the kids on what happens next. My family stressed being a productive in society, so I went to the military and got my bachelors and my brother had a Masters in Education before he passed and I only assoicate with only positive people of any race. As far as my extended family, the majority have done the same. Now been a few who decided not to go that route. But that was their "personal" decision and that would be the case of any race of kids coming up. The issue with the Black Community is that the "dark side" or getting quick money has been more of an issue. According to the Harvard Gazette on average students have lost about a half a grade level in math and a quarter of a grade level in reading due to COVID, so education as a whole in the US has taken a hit. I do agree better decision making needs to be made, but Black people as a whole don't all think the same. My extened family is made of So California: Black, Asian, Hispanic and White so I guess we'll be fine. 😄

So in reality there should be more Asians at these ivy league institutions comparable to the amount you would see at Cal Tech. I think you nailed it, its a cultural thing. Culture is something that is shaped by a multitude of factors. What happened to China collectively from both the Opium Wars, Taiping Rebellion, Sino Japanese wars all leading into the Boxer Rebellion and Boxer Protocol where 11 different nations destroyed their economy, leading into Mao and the cultural revolution that you mentioned. It took China many years to recover from a 100+ year exploitation. Now China still had their language and they still had their religion/cultural identity. If you take the black/African American the exploitation that began with Pope Nicholas V authorizing the Portuguese King (1452-1455) what happened to the Chinese during the Boxer Protocol was the template of what happened to the Africans, all major nations descended on them, the difference with the blacks affected today in North and South America was that the blacks completely lost their cultural identity. Their language, religion is such a powerful thing, if you're given a religion and you don't see your face in the canon it will affect the psyche of the group. The family was completely destroyed through the 400+ years of chattel slavery (slavery has happened in all nations, cross time and cross culture but chattel slavery was unique) and follow on Jim Crow laws banning access to governmental help like Headright Program, Land Ordinance Act, Homestead Act, Social Security, New Deal Act, subsidized home loans, access to insurance policies, education, access to brokers to be able to invest. Then you factor in the Harlem renaissance and how Dubois who was trying to get black America to focus on STEM and not the arts but he was overpowered by the money injected into the entertainment and arts by America. Finally the veterans from WWII couldn't utilize their GI Bill and benefits as their other counterparts. We can see *HOW* it happened. You're completely correct in both the observation and the fix, the culture must be changed towards connection towards something higher that can be identified with (like family as you mentioned), educating the mind (not dropping out), taking care of the body and cultivating finances & resources. Like Mao, the cultural revolution and the death/famine brought on by that, are often looked at as a microcosm but the truth is Mao was the result of a 100+ year history of exploitation. Imagine how long the recovery would be if the language was erased and everyone adopted another religion that wasn't from their land. None of this is an enablement of the behavior that you mentioned. Simply an explanation of how it happened. If you chain an elephant down from birth it won't ever try to move away from the chain as an adult. They're countless studies and experiments on rats trying to escape through open gates, getting shocked and then their offspring won't even attempt to escape themselves (who have never been shocked). Thanks for the video and I hope you continue to harness your craft. To anyone reading this I hope you know that you are connected to all, you continue to harness/grow your spirit mind, body and resources.

What is so interesting about Black Culture that you aren't JUMPING at the chance to get rid of it? Please also remember Mao killed 100-some MILLION Chinese "Fewer Mouths To Feed". Culture plays a big role. Asians in general prioritize and value hard work, discipline, good grades, education, and having money. Having kids out of wedlock and teen pregnancy are highly discouraged and are uncommon. Asians in America are more likely to grow up in two parent homes and surrounded by aunts, uncles, and extended family who help care for them. In black American culture, its not cool to get good grades and speak proper English. Getting an education is not a priority and parents are not as involved in their kids' education. Most black kids are also raised by single moms without a father consistently involved. In black culture, its more acceptable to be a teen mom and have multiple baby daddies/mamas. Statistically, all the odds are against them. This sets the children up for failure when there is no stability, no father figure, no responsible adult around, etc and their role models are the rappers on tv and neighborhood drug dealers/strippers. Its also true that many Chinese, Koreans, Indians come here with some money or at least connections to businesses or people who already have wealth. They already have a good support system to thrive and start businesses.

Many asians are in asia and very successful. Asians in asia increasingly outperform the asian diaspore outside of asia. Much of or the majority of the asian diaspora are in the rest of asia. Most of Asia is part of the asian tiger economic miracle. Taking Indians for example, India will probably have more billionaires than the USA within a dozen years (at which point only China will have more billionaires than India) and increasingly outshine the Indian diaspora. Similarly, Vietnam increasingly outshines the global Vietnamese diaspora. Vietnam is probably growing 7% a year over the next decade (only Guyana, Rwanda and India are expected to grow faster in the entire world.). Same story in Israel, Kuwait, Bahrain, Brunei, Macau, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar. Similarly, most asian countries are increasingly outshining their global diasporas. Philippines and Mongolia are a bit behind in this regard; but are still growing 6 1/2 to 7 percent a year. And even the Philippines and Mongolia will likely soon outshine the extremely successful global Filipino diaspora.

ChineseHistorian: I think the #1 reason why people don't try hard in high school is because from the time they are born, they and their parents don't see college as a real possibility, due to it being expensive and racism in the past. Consider that any black person's grandparent has had less of a chance to build that "generational wealth" and has likely faced more racism growing up. Newer immigrants did not face the racism of the 1950s and saw college as the right path to go from the start. Plus, Chinese people have thousands of years of history and culture, things like Confucionism etc. which put a high emphasis on education. The first black Americans in the USA had their culture and identity stripped it away, and they had to rebuild it in an environment where they were seen and treated as inferior.

And the shame of not doing well feels like death. Plus there are shared assets and networks inherited. Thats why Asian women make more than White men. That why Jews are at the very top. They typical American style resets every generation. They have few people to learn from with expectations. And its rare they have any sense of shame to do better. Go look at where black Americans were before and after LBJ's War on Poverty; you'll find your answer there. Also the black drop-out rate can be explained by Affirmative Action. Black students get bonus points on their SAT for being black. What this means is that they qualify for courses they're not prepared for, so they take out a loan, enter the course expecting to find a job after it that will take them out of poverty, find that it's too difficult and now they've got a loan (that can never be discharged) with no results to show for it...and now they're further in poverty, enabled by people who pretend to care about their plight.

well since many of you are coming in illegally supported by our corrupt governments who don't do anything to support a fair society, instead only making a normal life unpayable for the average person, due to rising property prices, by way of their fake green taxation plans and money printing, with wealthy immigrants only adding to that problem, and the forced diversity hiring which takes away the opportunities of local born people, taking their jobs, you're basically colonizers. especially since the same opportunities and privileges are not available in your home countries for us. what can you do to right your 'wrongs'? stop working our jobs. stay in sectors like tourism, restaurants, translation, where you actually contribute to the original population. stop choosing to study and work in our countries. another thing that would help is destroy the corporations that you work for from within. the corporations is what has decimated small business and made our countries into sort of a prison planet, and they are the ones enforcing the globalism without regard for original culture, people and economy.

if you are so highly educated, how about you put that knowledge to use for once? you could answer your own question. if these groups are contributing so much to the economy, why is the west losing it's economic position to other countries, in such a way that the west can't even provide opportunies for all its inhabitants? business development, process innovation, product development and R&D spaces are underperforming compared to 3 decades ago and the years before that, when there weren't as many jews and asians like you say. there wouldn't be much of a problem with immigrants if the machine was working optimally. if the economy could handle them.

yes, we will be replaced soon. the rich will be getting richer, middle class will shrink and grow poorer. the rich will want to keep technology developing at the cost of individual rights like private ownership. they will use public private partnerships to make it happen. the funds will be divided among the industrialists and they will allow the oblivious sheep following their every command to govern society in a communist way. think of social justice warriors and managers who push through their own plans during company meetings while pretending it was agreed upon by everybody.

Try to learn something new everyday. School is important but self determination and self motivation is the most valuable type of person. You can learn on your own or with others who see that you’re driven to learn what they know. School is pricing many out and to those who are priced out take it into your own hands and learn what you’re interested in.

Your outlook is too simplified when comparing Vietnam to China. First and foremost Vietnam was drowned in battle for alot longer than China, they had to fight the French, US, and China. The after affects of that is hard to calculate. Another thing you have to take into account is Deng Xiao Ping's revolutionary outlook, and deviation from Mao's policies. If Deng did not open the borders to the west and adopting a capitalistic economy, China's success may very well be different.

A lot of the problem is the issue with relationships between black men and black women, since the crack epidemic the idea of lifelong commitment seems to have been shattered. Whether you say the black man runs from his family, or the black woman gets pissed and kicks her baby daddy to the curb not allowing him to see or talk to his children, the reality is relations have broken down. This allows for a majority of us males to have been raised by a single black mother, usually while surrounded by her female friends and female family like Aunts and grandmother and such. And guess what messaging we grow up hearing to the point it becomes part of our subconscious? That work is just a means to an end, that the goal is to not work, that the goal is to do the bare minimum so I can come back home and watch my shows. You might say wait a minute, single moms work hard, and the answer is yes but after working all day they come home and complain about the fact that they have to work at all, what do you think that does to the psyche of the children listening to this? For me personally I learned the virtue of hard work and doing whatever it takes to make my goals a possibility after I went to the military. When I was a kid all i knew was I didn't want to be at school longer than necessary and didn't want to do homework longer than necessary etc... You see how parents don't even realize what they are instilling into their children. So with so many of us growing up hearing our single mothers complaints, we internalized them and they became our complaints as well until someone snaps us out of it (usually after spending time around real men).

Lack of economic opportunities for black men and the prison industrial complex that disproportionately puts black men in jail are the reasons for the rampant single motherhood in the black community.

It's interesting but he is also suggesting that since schools matter than the underfunding of Black schools is a big contributor to the problem. It could also be contributing to truancy. Think about it. Cut programs such as music, chess club, drama club and many students will lose interest in going to school. So a school without funds for these types of activities will suffer. So the power brokers know that they can keep Black folks from catching up simply by making sure that their schools are sub-standard. Yep... he has a point he just didn't word it like this. I have attended and taught at inner city schools, wealthy private schools and well funded suburban public schools. I can tell you first hand that you get what you pay for!
