Sincere thanks for this video, it is the only one I found that addresses the problem of the clutch not releasing. Our 2001 Xterra fan would spin up at startup, then slow down about 20 seconds into warmup. Then the clutch failed and it was like it was locked up. Power went away, extremely noisy and mileage suffered. I purchased the most expensive aftermarket fan on RockAuto and it was nice & shiny but operated the same; always locked up and never releasing. I took your advice and ordered the Nissan part (a lot more expensive) and it now works as it should. In my opinion, it is totally worth the extra money. The aftermarket parts do not function correctly. Thanks again!

Thank you for your video, it helped me a great deal on my project. 2005 Armada. I bought the OEM part for about $130. Took me about two hours with getting the four bolts on the toughest part. No more roar!

Thanks for the video. I took my Nissan van to the dealer because the fan sounds like it is going to fly out from under the hood. My van is still under warranty. They said that it is operating properly, as designed. You explained the trouble that I am having with the constant fan noise. I'm going to another dealer to get them to fix this.

It takes a lot of engine power to run the fan, so you have less power going to the wheels and less MPG

Sometimes I think Nissan says it’s normal so they don’t have to pay to replace them. I have a 2021 Titan SV with only 21k miles and sometimes when the truck is running it sounds like a jet engine. Nissan says it’s nothing is wrong.

When you originally replaced your fan clutch what was it that you did not like on the performance aspect? I’m asking because I replaced my fan clutch yesterday w/a Duralast brand clutch from AutoZone. It did eliminate the slipping I was having from the original Infiniti QX80 clutch but w/this clutch it will hardly ever disengage. The fan runs virtually nonstop.

Yup, I had to buy an OEM Infinity Fan Clutch finally. Once I put it in it acted as it should. Made worlds of difference.

I have a 2019 Midnight edition Titan. I purchased it used from a Nissan Dealership in Nov 2021 with 55k miles. I have had the fan clutch serviced 4 times so far. Tomorrow I bring it back for a 5th repair. It’ll work fine for a few weeks after repair. Then it happens. I accelerate, fan blows loud like a jet, truck loses power. Sometimes it does it all day, sometimes it’ll do it a few times and then won’t do it again the rest of the day. There’s no rhyme or reason. They have changed the fan clutch multiple times and the fan assembly on one occasion. Still it always fails. Could there be something electrical that is causing all the new fan clutches to fail? I’m about to get rid of the truck if it can’t be repaired once and for all. Thoughts?

@@tacocat2580 After over a year and a half and 11 service visits, they finally seemed to have fixed the issue this past July. Nissan apparently re-engineered or changed the specs on the factory fan clutches. The put the new version in and it hasn’t seized since (knock on wood). Definitely fucking annoying that it took so long. They tried telling me it was the aftermarket front bumper which came with the truck when I bought it used in November 2021. I just didn’t take no for an answer.

Try letting it warm up, then rev to 2000 rpm for a bit. Listen for fan...it should kick out to slower speed.

I’ve been having the same problem with my LX470. Put in a new OEM Lexus fan clutch - problem was not solved. 9 months later put in another new Toyota OEM fan clutch and an AISIN fan pulley bracket as part of timing belt water pump job - problem still not solved. It still roars like a dump truck. Any other ideas?

My ac blow hot air when is in idle. Do you think that is the problem. I have a 2021 Nissan Titan
@charlespalmer8586

It definitely could be a contributing factor as well a other culprits. Be sure the condenser is relatively clean, the fins aren't bent and the area between the condenser and radiator is clear of debris, leaves and (no Joking) dead birds. Be sure that any air baffles or seals in the form of foam strips or rubber flaps are there and intact. They function to assure that the air drawn by the fan doesn't bypass the condenser. The air will travel the path of least resistance. Drive belt slipage would also be a concern, but that would most surely come with a noise concern. Do you notice the engine temperature go up in an extended idle condition? If so I would defijnitely direct attention to the fan clutch. Ultimately a low refrigerant charge. Don't add refrigerant indiscriminately. Have a shop purge and recharge the refrigerant to the specified amount.

You are wrong. It is exactly like Taco Cat describes, when it is working correctly. It will spin up during cold start, then the fluid will be forced into the center reservoir, thereby disengaging the clutch and allowing the fan to free-wheel and slow down considerably. The clutch will tighten when the temp is high enough to need cooling.
