I also carry a shovel, two buckets of ashes, 4 chains since I usually drive from Bethlehem to Coudersport to Wellsboro back to Bethlehem a few times every winter for work. 14hrs in one day but I get paid double time plus $220.00 for using my own vehicle. I would highly recommend any brand of full set of mountain flake snowtires if you live anywhere it snows a lot. I have gone through a ton of snow with zero issues. @flamingviperv12
3 ай бұрын
Nope, that wouldn't have helped him at all. If you've ever driven a truck in four wheel drive you will know that turning them is shit, if you thought a truck had bad steering already it's even worse in four wheel, it had nothing to do with speed. They were going at the same speed and if you look closely, the driver turned way too late, he only started turning at that cottonwood and because he overcorrected, his traction broke which would've happened at any speed, mind you. If the car also steered late and had to overcorrect, he would be in the ditch as well.

@flamingviperv12
3 ай бұрын
The truck didn't hit the brakes, he overcorrected his steering because he was steering too late and that caused his traction to brake, which would happen at any speed. You can tell he is in four wheel drive and if you know what it's like driving a truck in four wheel drive, they don't simply. If it was a speed issue, he would've been deeper in the ditch, it was not caused by that.
@gerardsavage1145
3 ай бұрын
@@flamingviperv12 it was speed. The truck weighs twice what the car weighs so is carrying more momentum into the corner at similar speeds. Also, it's a tall vehicle on tall suspension and tyres which means it will lean more in corners, reducing the contact patch. As well as that, it's probably on all terrain tyres with big gaps in the blocks which reduce on-road grip even further. The guy might have made it around the corner at that speed if he was skilled enough, but most aren't. He didn't know how to deal with the understeer.

When you have to get out of a slick spot, straighten out your steering column! Always! Even if it doesnt seem right or you think it gonna get worse it won't, believe me. Your just gonna drag or pull that front axle amd the differential is designed to prevent slip on turns which helps on turns but doesn't help when you're stuck. It aound counterintuitive but believe me, take the time to straighten out the front steering and then give it low gas in low gear and once youre rolling correct the steering. Youre working against the weight of your front end(the heaviest part) amd the limited slip differential when your front tires aren't facing forward please remember this, in mud, grass, snow... I dont care about your 4x4 or the tourque you got if youre not giving the vehicle the chance is was designed for its for nothing... So the lesson is, don't try and get unstuck while your steering is off center, believe me

Once it took me 8 hours to cross Poland (another ~8 to cross Germany - including some sleep) - on back roads in the snow in February, in a Vauxhall Astra (front wheel drive) - Winter tyres were absolutely necessary (but getting stuck could still have been possible - the size of the unswept snow banks).. - the whole trip was from Tallinn (Estonia) to Coventry in England - the little beauty gunbarrelled the trip ~32hrs total (4pm Eastern European time to 9pm GMT + 1 day.

@@BiscuitsOfWrath I don't even think it's that. People think 4x4 is some magical driver's assist that makes you invincible, and they do not know how the system even operates. If you get wheel slip on an older 4x4 and you don't lift immediately; you're fucked lol the front wheels may be trying to correct the spin, but your rear wheels are pushing you straight still, usually into a wall or ditch lol new cars are different, with their fancy traction controls, so it's more difficult to lose it if you're not driving like an idiot. Pickups have their own issue too tho, with having 0 weight in the rear. I live in the country and we get a bunch of snow here. Every single pickup owner I know will throw a couple hundred pounds of weight in the back come winter time to help with traction

Something as simple as slowing down before the turn instead of during the turn will greatly reduce the risk of ending up in the ditch, or worse crashed into a car in the oncoming lane. That way, you can remain in control. Especially when you're driving a vehicle that weighs as much as that truck. Many that drive with 4x4 or AWD forget that just because you're able to get going with those drive systems doesn't mean you can stop any easier than anyone else on the road. Just because you're driving a nice truck with 4x4 that have nice chunky well treaded tires doesn't mean anything when it comes to stopping or turning on ice, as this individual displayed.😂

I love my big truck, it’s a ram rebel with huge tires and wheel differential. My driveway is steep, and it is the only vehicle that can get up in in snowy/icy weather in 4w low. But I know better when driving in ice, it doesn’t matter what vehicle you have, ice is ice and there’s no traction. Thankfully my dad taught me how to drive in bad weather conditions when I was younger

@Rumple999 You obviously don’t understand how steep my driveway is. I’ve lived here for 20+ years and owned many different 4wd vehicles, if there is snow when I leave, getting back up the driveway is impossible, especially the angle of it compared to my street and houses. My Rebel has been the only one that can get up my driveway out of the 8-9 4wd vehicles I’ve had.
